Chapter 49: Beginning with "Hi"

(Jason POV)

The next day, the doctors released me as planned. Unfortunately, it wasn’t because I was well rested. If anything, I had had one of the least restful nights ever, because pieces of memories of the wedding kept flashing through my head and I kept trying to make sense of them. It was a lot to absorb and process through.

The meeting with Alpha Blake, my dad, and Aaron was set for 7:00 p.m., just after dinner. Aaron gave me Cassie’s letter at dinner, so that I could read it before our meeting. It was in a sealed envelope, so I knew he hadn’t read it. I wasn’t sure how ready I was to read her words, but Aaron’s comments kept running through my head. I needed to keep an open mind, and I needed to stop sabotaging myself.

Finally, I opened the letter:

Dear Jason,

I’m sorry that I left without saying goodbye. I wasn’t sure how you would feel about seeing me in person after everything that happened, and I really did need to get back to my family and White Howlers’ pack.
