I look away from her to see he’s stepping into the cell again and before I know it, he yanks her by the hair, dragging her away from me as she fights with her nails to get his hands off when he throws her to the floor and rams his foot into her abdomen.

‘Mother!’ I charge onto my feet and grit regretfully, knowing I can’t do much as I’m exhausting all the strength I have left to fight the weakness off.

She winces, her body trembling into a curl on the floor as she coughs repeatedly. He squats to the floor, gripping fist-full of her messy hair to lift her off the floor and forced to sit.
