“Smells so good, Yumi. Can’t I have a taste now?”

“Sure. That’s if you’re okay with a burnt tongue”. Cheerful mockery giggles follow after. That’s the voice of my mate. I turn in the direction of the kitchen and stop just before the threshold to see her with an angry face and both small hands over each other on her forehead.

“What did you do that for?!” She snaps at Nyx but he shrugs, walking away and towards the burners.

“How much longer do I have to wait?”

“Hey! It’s not just you eating that. We are all eating that.”

“How many of us?” He deadpans. “Uh well, you, me, Henry, Charles, Delano, Drew, Lisa…Harvey when he gets back and his mom…”

She thinks for a while, “…I think that’s it. Zana and Zainab betrayed me today so I won’t count them in”.
