Chapter 005 She’s Back

~Rosemary~

"Congratulations! You are now man and wife!"

As soon as the official said those words, I felt a twinkle in my heart. How I got divorced and remarried within 48 hours was beyond me!

The mood was awkward as Gerald and I walked out of the county clerk's office. I glanced at him. "I guess you're Mr. Beckett now, huh?"

Gerald stopped to look at me. Then he smiled. "You heard what the nurse said?"

I nodded while forcing a smile. Gerald took my surname. He said that's what he should do because the money I paid him could save one of his best friends in Mexico.

I had just resumed walking when my phone rang. Although the number wasn't saved, I answered it, "Hello..."

"Hello, Rosemary. This is Barrister Steven, your father's lawyer."

"Oh, hey! To what do I owe this call?" I asked, remembering the man's face.

He paused before saying, "Your attention is urgently needed. Can you come to my office now?"

"Sure, sure..." I replied, feeling a little disturbed. "I'm on my way."

"What's the matter?" Gerald asked the second I ended the call.

I shook my head. "Nothing, I just have somewhere to be. I'll call you--"

"Let me drive you."

My brows arched in surprise, trying not to stare at his cheap T-shirt. "You have a car?"

"No, but I can call a friend of mine for one."

When I saw him whip out his phone, I couldn't help laughing. "You don't even have a car, yet you hesitated to accept my marriage proposal?"

He looked at me, then shrugged.

I took out my car key before spinning it with my fingers. "You don't have to borrow a car. It's fine. We can both use mine from now on. I'll also pay you handsomely as long as you play your role as my husband well."

Gerald did a salute. "Aye, aye, captain! I promise to be the best husband in the whole world!"

"What! You are so hilarious!" I laughed again.

"I like the sound of that. But as your husband, you have to let me drive even though it's your car," he added, stretching out his hand. "Be the passenger princess."

As he took the key, I couldn't help staring at him in a daze. I didn't even know him well, yet he was already making me smile.

What a man!

Thirty minutes later, we pulled up in front of a well-decorated business building. Everything seemed to be familiar. I had been here a few times with my late father, so I knew my way around.

"I don't think I would be gone for long," I said, getting out of the car. "You can wait for me here."

After Gerald nodded, I walked into the building and took the elevator to the third floor. I was just a few steps away from the office when I heard a snide remark.

"What's that smell?"

I stopped dead in my tracks, seeing two good-looking people walk over to me, arm in arm. The woman was wearing a pair of high heels with tight leather pants and a see-through top. Her blonde hair flowed past her shoulders and bust. She had on full make-up. Above all, she looked a lot like me.

It was Amani Beckett, my twin sister.

Amani eyed me from head to toe. "It's you. You are stinking up the whole place."

Knowing that she just wanted to stir up trouble, I said calmly, "Hey, Amani. You are back--"

"Like I never left," she retorted, flipping her hair back. "I came to take back what was rightfully mine. All is right in the world now."

Suddenly, she gripped Max's chin and turned his face. She then gave him a French kiss, leaving him with red lipstick on the lips.

I was stunned.
