Chapter 44 The Spaghetti

Josephine opened the bedroom door and there was no one there. Khoga, who had previously been guarding the door, was also absent.

There was a strange smell floating in the air. Josephine tried to remember what it smelled like, but couldn't figure it out. She remembered what Nicholas had said earlier, so she wouldn't leave the room, but the noise was really annoying. Josephine want to know what it is.

Josephine ventured to look for the source of the sound, but her phone in her trouser pocket vibrated. She took it and saw Rain's name on the screen.

"Mommy," Rain said softly. "You still working? Still in the hospital?"

"No honey, I'm at... umm... a patient's house, taking care of him. What's wrong? Is everything ok?"

"I didn't bother you?"

"No. Just tell me. I'll be home in an hour or so, more or less."

"My teacher called. She asked me to come to school tomorrow afternoon."

Josephine's forehead creased. Tomorrow is Saturday. "Hm? What for? Isn't tomorrow a holiday?"
