Chapter 9: Take the scary warning

A search for Regina's whereabouts immediately took place. Anthony used all the connections he had to find her final destination. However, he didn't understand why Regina and that taxi had both disappeared and left no trace. Anthony decided to drive himself along the last stretch of the road they saw the taxi.

On the other hand, Audrey mobilized forces also to search for Regina. He couldn't let her fall into the hands of the head of the Dominic mafia family. The phone rang in Audrey's anticipation.

"How's everything?" Audrey immediately picked up the phone and asked. Side by side documents piled up more and more.

“Miss Regina has not been found yet. There's one more thing . . . " faltered on the other end of the line, which annoyed Audrey.

“Speak quickly if you have something to say. I don't want to lose time," Audrey said harshly, not noticing someone had just entered his president’s room.

“The people who were sent to spy on the people of the Dominic house have all strangely disappeared. Not to mention, our actions are always thwarted,” sighed the other end of the line at the heat of the weather. Their car was normal but suddenly broke down and released smoke continuously. They had to stop and look at the problem with the car. However, when they were standing in another corner to call and seek help from the car repairman. The car suddenly caught fire. Fortunately, no one was killed, “We don't want to do this anymore. We will pay you back. Go hire someone else."

“Is it okay for you to do business like that?… Hey… Hello…” Audrey heard the call on the other end and was extremely angry. He slammed the phone down on the table. His anger probably hadn't subsided yet, so he tossed the documents beside him.

From the moment Regina escaped from the hospital, Audrey put all his work aside. He focused all his attention on finding her. Audrey also had not come home for many days. All personal activities, he did at the hospital and slept in his office. In the past, Audrey acted shabby in front of reporters. And now, not only did he not sleep well, but he also did not eat well.

"CEO, I have a document for you," said the secretary, who had entered the room a long time ago but did not receive Audrey's attention, so she cooed.

“You leave it there,” Audrey leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes. The dark circles on his eyes were hard to hide.

Audrey heard the crate drop on the table. The sound of shoe heels sounded closer and closer to his ears. A pair of hands suddenly placed on Audrey's shoulder and gently massaged him.

“Let me give you a massage,” the secretary said in a sweet voice. She saw that Audrey didn't say anything so she continued her activism.

The secretary's voice in Audrey's ears wasn't as pleasant as when he was with Stella or Regina. However, he still enjoyed the comfortable feeling that the secretary brought. Hands from his shoulders began to trace his face and rub at his temples. Then they stroked down Audrey's neck and his shoulder, intending to move further. However, Audrey grabbed the secretary's wrist and pulled away, "That's enough. You go out.”

The secretary wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to touch Audrey's body, but seeing his steadfastness, she did not dare to do so. The secretary really wanted to seduce Audrey so she could enjoy the indulgence and riches of a businessman. However, it was also very difficult for her to get such a good and high-paying job. The secretary didn't dare to take the initiative to trade her career like that, so she bowed her head and went out.

Audrey looked at the documents that the secretary had arranged and left on the table expressionless after being pushed down by him. He knew what to touch and what not to touch. For Audrey, affection was an element for him to take advantage of in the future. He did not really love anyone too much or satisfy his lust in exchange for what he had worked so hard to build. Audrey did not turn down offers from other beautiful women, but he knew where the limit was.

Audrey felt he had enough rest. He turned on his computer and prepared to deal with the pile of documents on the table. There was a faint smell in the room. Audrey frowned and picked up the landline phone and dialed a number, “Did you forget to ask the janitor to clean my room?”

Audrey received the secretary's reply and then fell silent for a moment, "I know."

Audrey realized that his question was a bit unreasonable. He sat here all morning but didn't smell any bad smell. That smell just appeared not long ago. Audrey looked around the room and then noticed the box the secretary had brought in earlier. He raised his eyebrows and remembered that the smell had been there since the box appeared.

Audrey mumbled and cursed a few sentences before walking quickly toward the box. He picked up the package and looked around it. Audrey made sure the package was for him, then opened it. The package was lightly wrapped and taped, but Audrey didn't pay attention to that detail. He quickly removed the tape and opened the package cover.

Audrey was still angry, then suddenly turned to horror. He pushed the box away and wiped his hands on his pants. Audrey just stood there looking at the box and trying to regain his composure. He walked over to it again. Inside, what terrified Audrey were human fingers. He pulled out a lot of tissues nearby before he dared to touch the box. Audrey closed the lid and wiped the sweat from his forehead. Then he walked over to his desk and picked up the phone again, “Tell Dr. Jack to stay after work. I have a favor to ask.”

After work, everyone seemed to have gone home. Only nurses and a few doctors on duty remained to take care of the patient's health. In one of the labs, Audrey was standing with his arms crossed and watching Jack as he stooped to pick up a sample of the cuticle inside these fingers.

“The cut was really sweet as if it only took a knife to cut it. Fingers do not have the same DNA. Which means they belong to ten different people,” Jack looked at the results on the computer and informed Audrey.

A look of contemplation and horror could be seen on the two's faces. They worked in hospitals, so seeing other people's bloody organs was not too strange. However, this was their first time witnessing this terrifying sight.

“Do you know who sent these to you?” Jack turned to look at Audrey and waited for an answer.

Audrey shook his head slightly but then stopped. Maybe he knew who had sent these to him. Audrey had hired detectives and assassins from other gangs to track down Anthony. Not only did he spend a lot of money, but he also couldn't get any information out. The team that canceled his contract today was already the fourth team. Each such team has at least three people. If it was really what Audrey thought it was, he wouldn't be so sure his life was safe.

While Audrey was still skeptical, the phone rang with a text message. He took it out in exhaustion and clicked it open to read.

“This is the first warning if you don't want to lose your hands,” the text of the message caught Audrey's eyes.

Audrey's eyes widened at the unthinkable. His hands were shaking and he tried hard not to drop the phone on the floor. After receiving the message, Audrey was sure that the person who sent him this package was the head of the Dominic mafia family. This meant that the fact that he let people track Anthony's every move was discovered a long time ago.

Audrey looked at these fingers on the table and suddenly felt nauseous. He quickly ran to the sink to handle it. Seconds later, Audrey sat down wearily in a chair. Those ten fingers were Audrey's first warning. The next warning would be your hands.

“This must absolutely not be told to anyone or I will not leave you alone. Remember to clean this up and then go home,” Audrey patted Jack's shoulder a few times and quickly headed out to get away from the stench. Jack sat alone in the lab and looked at the ten fingers on the table. He felt a chill and quickly cleaned up so that no one would notice.

Audrey went down to the basement and drove home. He dared not be alone tonight. Audrey felt that Anthony was giving followers and was ready to kill him at any moment. He rushed home, startling the one in the house.

Audrey entered the house with a tired look. The atmosphere in the house temporarily calmed him down a bit. Audrey walked into the bedroom and took off his tie. However, a soft object charged toward his face and stunned him. Audrey looked closely at the object and then became angry.

"What the hell are you doing?" Audrey grabbed the pillow from the floor and tossed it on the bed. He shouted at the woman who was half lying on the bed.

“You dare ask me that question. Where have you been for a week? You stayed at the company to hang out with that secretary, didn't you?" Stella yelled.

For a short while, Stella looked thinner and paler than everyone could have imagined. Her hair also seemed to be less. Stella no longer looked like a sweet and heartwarming girl like before.

“Can you be less annoying?” Audrey took a new set of clothes from the closet and went to the bathroom.

Stella felt that Audrey didn't care about her, so she still managed to scream outside, “I am annoying? I got it. Now you hate me, right? I have this appearance all because of you. You made me miscarry and you blame me, Audrey. You have to get out of here."

Audrey opened the water wide and let it pour over his head. A week ago, on the day Regina escaped, Audrey and Stella got into a fight. He accidentally pushed her against the table and successfully took the life of their child. Since then, Stella's health gradually declined. The doctor also informed her that it would be difficult for her to have children again. This became the fatal knife in Stella's heart. If it was hard for her to have children, she would not be able to enter the noble family.

Stella and Audrey were still in a secret relationship. They didn't say it, but those close to them knew they were a couple. Audrey was still not divorced from Regina, so he could not marry Stella. Therefore, the reason why she miscarried or could not have children would become the subject of everyone's ridicule. She had an affair with her brother-in-law.

Audrey stepped out of the bathroom but never looked at Stella again. This infuriated her even more. Audrey ignored Stella's cursing and went into another room. If it was before, a single tear from Stella would make Audrey extremely nervous. However, he was bored with her current appearance. This was also the reason why he did not return home. He also felt grief over the loss of his own child.

Audrey walked into the room that had previously been his and Regina's room. Old memories came flooding back. Regina was always patient and took care of Audrey. She always made delicious food waiting for him to come back. She always helped him with the work. Regina's tolerance and excellence once again made Audrey happy but also worried. He was afraid that one day he would be defeated by her in every respect. Then Stella appeared and brought a breath of fresh air. Audrey officially fell and betrayed Regina.

While Audrey missed Regina, Anthony kept running back and forth the route of the taxi that had taken Regina. The sky was already dark, but Anthony didn't give up. Suddenly, a car coming from the opposite direction was about to hit his car, causing him to quickly turn the steering wheel to the other side. The driver of that car was drunk and even cursed Anthony. However, thanks to that person, Anthony found another trail hidden by dense trees...
