03. Rein Jackson

Rein Jackson

The first person to walk in through the gate was a quite tall man with slightly broad shoulders. He wore a black turtle-neck sweater with dark blue fitting pants and a dark blue coat over the black sweater. His hair was black in a colour with some hair strands that fell on his face coloured gold. His face was a diamond shaped face with the prettiest jawline I had ever seen in my entire life. He was thin, but somehow thick. His left hand was decorated with a shiny golden colour wrist watch and few rings that ornamented his fingers. The other was barely decorated with just a beaded bangle on It, holding a phone in it.

His deep set dark eyes looked around our compound, probably in disgust or wonder. This handsome dude looked rich, in fact he is rich. But who is he?

His eyes kept scanning the compound till they stopped.... On me! I had to rub my eyes to be sure if this man was actually looking at me or the window frame of the window I stood behind to be looking at him. To be honest our window frame was a beautiful removable frame that my mom herself designed before she died.

Maybe he was admiring the unique beautiful frame of our window.

But...

Nah...

I stared back as if hypnotized by his eyes. It was as if our souls were having a strong communication with each other. But whatever they decided to say, I didn’t know what it was and neither did he. We just remained in that state for quite a while until Erica came and pecked him on the lip.

Actually, she kissed him on the lip and blushed really hard, holding on strongly to his arms.

“Welcome to my haven, honey.” I heard her, though a little. They walked in with their hands intertwined in each other's while they walked slowly like two young lovers. They didn’t say a word to each other but their hearts probably spoke millions of words such as “I miss you”. Two other women, walked in after my dad and then aunt Seville locked the gate before entering the house.

It then dawned on me that human Adonis I was spending so much of my time looking at was none other but Rein Jackson, her boss and her boyfriend.

If there is another word for weird and awkward, please tell me because dinner was so weird and awkward. Rein Jackson had come here with his mom, a middle aged woman, who dressed like she was still in her twenties, with style and excess swag.

Her jean was a high waist jean and she wore but a sleeveless, strapped white top that just ended at the level of her navel that was slightly covered by her jean. She wore classic diamond earrings that swung down her ear and both hands and all ten fingers were adorned with jewelleries.

She wore a light make up on and honestly, you could mistake her to be Rein's elder sister and not his mom.

“I hope you are enjoying your meal, Mrs Jackson?” Aunt Seville asked and She smiled. They were eating a dish, specially cooked by me... Well Rica and I.

“It is not bad.” She replied, taking a mouthful of French Bouillabaisse cioppino.

His sister, I think her name is Layla? Yes, Layla. She kept her eyes on me with a smile on her face. Now what kind of a smile was that, that she was putting on, all of a sudden. And why was she looking at me that way... It felt like I had somethingng of hers on my body.

Her eye contact was creepy and almost freaking me out. It felt almost as if she was seeing the French Bouillabase on me because she couldn’t just keep her eyes off me. I avoided her gaze and looked at Erica on my left who was enjoying her meal happily... Probably because of her handsome boyfriend who sat just opposite her.

When I looked at Mr Rein in front of her, his eyes were on Layla, his junior sister, the whole time. It was weird but it seemed like he was upset with her.

He then looked at me, smirked and then continued eating his meal. What was that all about?

I continued digging in my meal and then someone cleared that throat. As soon as I looked up, I saw Mr Rein on a knee, to my left before Erica. How he got to stand here without my notice wasn’t any of my concern.

But my concern was what he was about to do. I wasn’t new to such things, neither was I a woman to act or to be actually oblivious of such things such as Erica, who couldn’t hide the excitement behind the faked confusion look on her face.

Rein was about to propose and I could get aunt Seville and Miss Layla murmuring happily. Mrs Jackson did smile but it was just a little. Dad just looked at the scene with so much happiness in his broad smile.

“Erica Simpson, I've fallen in love with you and I'll never let you go. I love you more than anyone, and I just had to let you know. And if you ever wonder why, I don't know what I'll say, but I'll never stop loving you, today, tomorrow and every day.” Aunt Seville and Miss Layla interrupted with their claps and groans of happiness. They were so much moved by this pick up line that they couldn’t even allow him to finish.

“I could search my whole life through and through and never find another you. If I had to choose whether to breathe or to love you, I would use my last breath to tell you that... I love you.”

“As the days are passing by, my love for you is growing strong. Please be mine forever. Please belong to me. You are my life's most wonderful song. Please marry me, Erica.” He said the last few lines and my fork dropped for my hands, not attracting them since they were all focussed on the proposal.

I knew what she was going to give as a reply, for all his boring talk on love and all that. Pick up lines from the old book, was that what he was going to use to gain her love? From everything, he didn’t seem to know a little thing about how love operates, this Rein of a guy.

He probably didn’t even love her, so why was he proposing to her and telling her all those lies.

“Yes. Yes I do. I will marry you, Rein.” Erica said and hugged him. She fell to the ground and hugged him with tears on her lids. Pathetic!

It ended with her kissing him in front of everyone of us.

“So romantic. I will love to have some lovely marriage proposal like this. Right, Eric.”

Huh!

What was Miss Layla trying to mean now?
