V - Shining Eyes

Abby

I could feel that there was something wrong there, the twin’s expressions told me that, surely something had happened and they did not want to tell me.

Little Denny had a lot of energy and after so many turns playing catch-up in the boy’s room, I had to go down and take some water, now I can say it was the right time, because I was able to hear Kai giving orders to the man who brought me into the house, clearly saying that he should gather the best men at headquarters for a meeting.

This could only be something involving the vampires, Elijah insisted on telling about the war and how they were always in confrontation.

If this meeting was to talk about a new attack I needed to be there and know what they planned to do, that’s when my job as a spy began.

But how would I do that? They didn’t even want to let me travel in the rain because it was dangerous, how could I leave the house and follow them without them knowing anything?

"Who can’t leave these walls?" I asked entering the kitchen. "Is everything okay here?"

The two looked at me surprised and then looked away from my body, searching me from top to bottom, almost as if undressing me with their eyes. But they kept quiet, not saying a word probably thinking of some excuse for the moment of tension that I had just interrupted.

"Of course, we are saying that you will need to start work immediately. We’ll need to go out on business and we’re not sure when we’ll be back."

Yeah, business. Now I was even more sure that this involved vampires.

"But I thought you were staying here tonight, because of the rain and the dangerous roads." I spoke using all my sweetness, if I could get them to give up this stupid idea to keep me there, I’d get a chance to follow them.

"Kai will, it’s something he can solve by himself, quickly and simply." Cailan said attracting my attention. "I’ll stay!"

Shit, that would change things. As much as I didn’t want to have to be a spy, use those people to help the damn vampires, I knew what would happen to me and my family if I didn’t do the right job.

At the first opportunity Elijah would read my mind and destroy me and my family.

Something would have happened and my fear was that an attack was about to happen. I couldn’t care less about the vampires, but if Elijah or his brother were alive in the end they might find out that I had a chance to warn them and didn’t I’d be screwed.

"If you’re staying with your brother, then I can travel home tonight and..."

"No!" both exclaimed at the same time preventing me from continuing.

"You have to stay here, where it’s safe." Kai insisted, giving me the sure that something dangerous was going to happen.

But why did they care about me? Why they cared about my safety? The two of them had just met me, there was no reason to worry about me, I was just the nanny.

"I’ll stay and see how much of Denny’s mess you can take." Cailan spoke in a sweet, calm tone, with a smile that almost bewildered me.

It was strange to be so well received in a place where I had just been hired, in fact it everything was strange, they were attentive and kind, kept their eyes on me while we talked and now wanted to make sure I felt at home?

"I thought that was my job, to make everyone like me and not the other way around." I muttered looking away from them, feeling a smile growing on my lips as I looked at my bare feet on the cold floor.

Cailan let out a low laugh and it made my body shudder, a heat lodged in my chest.

"You’ve already made us like you." Kai was the one who said drawing my eyes straight at him.

On his face he had not the same smile as his brother, but his eyes connected with mine in such a way that I felt as if we had known each other for years.

It was strange to feel so comfortable around men, I had never had any reason to trust the male sex. Since my father abandoned my mother with me and my brother, my problems began and then came the boyfriends, who only seemed interested in getting into my pants.

That was one of the reasons I stayed a virgin until today.

"Thank you for welcoming me so well. It’s been a tough job search, I didn’t think I’d be hired."

"Why did you think that? You have such a good resume."

"Too good, some people would say." Cailan spoke coming closer to me and I took a step back. "You’re graduated, you have courses, you speak two languages." in every word he got closer to me and I took a step back, until I was against the kitchen counter.

"These are well-regarded things in the administrative world, but not to be a nanny." I murmured not knowing how to react to sudden closeness.

"Here things are chosen differently." Kai’s thick voice beside me made me look away from his brother. "We don’t need a fancy resume, we just like you."

He was so close and I had not even seen him approach me. The two had surrounded me in front, now I was trapped between the counter and their bodies dangerously close to mine.

I was feeling like a cornered prey, facing two killer wolves, ready to devour me. Especially when I looked into their eyes, I saw a hunger, something primitive screaming in the brown iris.

Their perfume invaded my senses and I knew it although similar, they had a difference between the woody touch and the smell of leaf in spring.

A voice screamed in my head, telling me to step back and walk away, to run away from them. "They’re wolves, Abby. The wisest thing to do is stay away." The voice screamed in my mind, but I couldn’t be reasonable and walk away, not when the two were so close and looking at me like that.

The smell and looks seemed to drug me in some way, dominating my senses and leaving me with my guard totally low before them.

"Abby!" The childish scream coming from upstairs was what made me come back to reality.

I rushed away, taking one last look at them.

"I have to go." I said not knowing very well why I was explaining myself, but I ran the next second, before I started chattering nervously. "Hi dear."

Denny was standing by the window looking at the rain and I knelt beside him, getting closer. His little eyes seemed shocked by the rays that tore the sky.

"Tell me a story" was all he said before turning to me with a sad face and teary eyes.

It didn’t look anything like the little boy who was playing excited a few minutes ago. I had no idea what could have happened in the short time I spent downstairs, it didn’t take that long and there was no sign of anything different from when I came down.

"Of course, I tell a story." I picked him up and he didn’t hesitate before wrapping my neck with his little arms. "Once upon a time..."

I made up a story hoping that the little one would sleep next to me. But that didn’t happen, he just kept staring at me, waiting for more and more.

He didn’t seem at all tempted to sleep, but he also didn’t want to let me go, he looked scared and it only made my heart race even harder to imagine him in the middle of this war between vampires and werewolves.

I could not understand anything of these supernatural beings and how their battles were, but war could never be a good thing.

My cell phone rang taking me out of my thoughts and interrupting my story, I pulled the device out of my pocket giving face to face with a message from Olivia.

Oli: Where did you go? How was the interview?

Oli: You were supposed to come back or give news, everyone is excited waiting for something from you.

So that’s it, that’s the time I became a bad person and a spy.

Abby: I was hired, we can celebrate!

Abby: But I’m not going home, my bosses have an important meeting at their headquarters and I’m gonna have to start today.

It seemed like an innocent message, but being sent to them was actually privileged information, which would give vampires some advantage in the middle of the war.

"Go on." Denny asked me, remembering the story I was telling and who I was betraying as well.

It was his family that I was handing over to the vampires, it was Kai’s safety that would be at risk once he left the house today. The same person who had hired me, who cared about me.

I do not know how long we were there talking and playing, until Maya came to call us for lunch and the little one ran before me.

I was about to go downstairs when Cailan’s voice attracted me.

"Yes brother. It’s all right here, don’t worry." So I went back a few steps and headed towards the door between open. "Come back safely, don’t let those leeches kill anyone else." There was a pause and I got even closer, getting a glimpse of him from behind with the cell phone in the ear. "She stayed the whole time with Denny in the room, was telling stories." And then one more pause as he listened to his brother speak, I so wish so badly that the call was on speaker so I could hear too. "I’ll keep them safe here at home. Come back safe!"

Hell, he was worried about my safety while I handed over his location to the vampires.

Cailan turned around suddenly catching me listening behind the door, It was almost as if he knew I was there, but I was sure I didn’t make any noise.

Great, I should be downstairs having lunch and not here spying.

"Sorry." I muttered as he opened the door, but instead of looking at me hard he just smiled. "I was wondering if you were coming down for lunch, but I didn’t want to interrupt your call."

"It wouldn’t be a problem if you had, my brother just wanted to know how everything was here." Cailan came in my direction, making my heart race with his closeness and his gaze upon me.

"Is he okay? Kai is coming back?" I asked afraid something bad had happened to him.

"He is fine, yeah. He’ll be back later or tomorrow morning."

I breathed relieved with his words, I had to hope that nothing would happen until then, or I would feel very guilty for giving up his location.

A thunder exploded outside making me jump on him with fright and everything around us went blackout, his room plunged into darkness.

But when I raised my head I found his both brown eyes glowing in the darkness.

"No need to be afraid." Cailan whispered, but I wasn’t afraid, I was paralyzed with the beauty of it.

The two brown irises shone in a golden hue attracting me even more, hypnotizing me completely.

Without me noticing what I was doing I raised my hand, leading up to his face wanting to touch him just to see if it was real. Cailan bent over coming towards me and shortening the path.

The beard pinched the palm of my hand, my fingers touched the warm skin and an electric current hit me. I arched with shock and the next instant his arm wrapped around my waist pulling me towards him.

The huge, hard body glued to mine the moment Cailan rubbed his nose against mine. Making a heat spread through my body, creeping me from head to toe and hardening my nipples.

"Mine!" I heard him growl leaving me confused, but everything fell apart when his mouth covered mine.
