Katrina couldn’t make much sense of the conversation, but she knew she had troubled a certain group of people. She knew they were vampires, but she didn’t realize she was in the presence of the Queen.

She wasn’t sure what it meant, exactly. But as soon as she heard it, she felt her entire body grow cold, and she realized that she couldn’t stay. There were too many unknown variables.
