Steves POVAfter I dropped Kay off at the house, I headed towards the jail to see Darren. This was not how I pictured the day after my wedding, but I didn’t want to leave the kids until I know what was going on. It would explain why Bethany was acting the way she was, if Darren got in her head he’s just looking to ruin our lives, he’s bored in there looking for some entertainment.I got to the jail and saw one of the guards I recognized,“Congratulations Pierce, I heard you got married and you had a baby. What the hell are you doing here?”I smiled at him, news sure traveled fast in these places, “Thanks man, I’m looking to see Spencer.”The guard gave me a questioning look, when I wouldn’t continue on with a reasoning, he went on to the computer and began to type,“He’s not here anymore they transferred him out after his sentencing, normally I would give you a phone number to call and it would take hours to get the place but I’ll see if I have the information here.”I thanked
Steve got home pretty late, I stayed up anxiously to see what happened. He walked up to me and gave me a gentle kiss on the lips that lasted just long enough, once he pulled away he walked into the kitchen to grab a glass of water. He’s mind was somewhere else as he was drinking his water looking out the window.“Are you hungry babe, I can make you something?”He shook his head, “No I’m good thanks babe.”I waited for him to say something else but nothing else came out.“How did the visit go? Is he dating Bethany?”He looked over at me and nodded before having another drink. He’s eyes were fixed outside in the dark, I walked over next to him and wrapped my arms around his waist as he held onto me. We stood and started into the darkness until Steve pulled away,“We should head to bed babe, we are going to have a late night tomorrow.” He gave me a smile but I could tell it was forced. One thing I learnt about Steve over the years was the way he handled things, he always kept everything
I went home to get some sleep after finding out the prison visiting hours, I was really worried about Steve, he should be here next to me. I had no idea who would take him, Darren didn’t have many friends, a lot of people hated him. They only liked him walking in the door with their drugs, it didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out. As I got home I put on one of Steve’s shirts as I climbed into bed. I tossed and turned trying to wrap my head around going to visit Darren tomorrow. I was worried what else they would ask me to do if this was only step one.I figured if Darren had a clue then he was probably in on this, but most likely he was the one who arranged it all. There was no talking Darren out of anything though, if he was planning something it wouldn’t matter if I were nice, crying, hurt or mad. He’s reaction would always be the same, he was incapable of empathy.I woke up earlier then I needed to be as I got up with the kids and made them breakfast, I saw my fathe
I nodded as I looked him over, he looked good he actually looked healthy. Maybe him and Bethany together was a good thing.“I’m only here for my clue.”He shook his head, “I’m sorry I don’t know what your talking about.”I looked into his eyes and he was genuinely confused, I began to get nervous I was doing this all for nothing. He could see the worry on my face when his confused look turned into a large smile,“Maybe I’ll only give you the clue if you sit here and talk to me.”I was so angry I wanted to jump through the glass and hit him, “Tell me where he is Darren please.”He began to laugh, “I told Steve when he was here he had to pick between you and Bethany and guess what he couldn’t even pick. So I picked for him, he has Bethany. You know Kay, I’d always pick you over anyone. You were always my one, I wouldn’t even need to think it was always you. Even though we are going through some stuff right now, I know your my girl. You always will be.”I looked at him and he was very
As I walked out of the prison, my stomach was in knots. I couldn’t believe Steve already signed the annulment. I still had 3 more clues to go, my stomach turned to think about what they would be, I sat in the car and thought about rushing to the courthouse and signing them and making it back for his 3rd clue, but I really didn’t want to go sign that paper. I knew if I didn’t then someone would come for me eventually and sign it, as I glanced through the parking lot I saw the lady guard who checked me in. When our eyes met she gave me a wave, I rolled my window down.“Did Spencer help you find your sister in law?”I shook my head, “No he’s being stubborn, she left her newborn daughter with me and my husband and I just need her to sign a page to pass the rights over. She sent us the documents but missed a spot, I can’t register her into anything without a guardian signature.”I seen her nod, “She usually comes to visit but I bet she’s just calling today. She seems so out of her mind.”
I watched as Steve walked the officer to his car and waved goodbye to him with a big smile on his face. I watched as everything happened, if he were really abducted then wouldn’t he say something to him. He looked completed fine, he scanned the area a bit before walking back into the house. He could of easily ran no one was watching him right now but he walked back inside.I watched the house a bit longer trying to understand what I just saw, it made my stomach turn as I kept thinking about what I saw. If Steve were here he would say before you get mad let me explain, that things are never as they seem. But right now things sure seemed bad.I stayed park a bit longer as things stopped moving at the house, when my phone rang I looked at the caller ID and it was the unknown number. I was nervous to answer, but I needed to understand a bit more what was going on. “Hello”I heard Steve’s voice, “Hey babe”I felt my stomach turn as I heard his voice, I didn’t want him to know I knew where
I headed home, I wasn’t too worried about this clue, Jeremy was young and I knew he wouldn’t remember this. That meant there were only 2 clues left, that made my stomach turn, what else could he ask of me. I spent the rest of the day spending time with my father and the kids before he left, I felt guilty being away from the kids so much lately. I just wanted things to get back to the way they were. The kids were all glue to me as I played with all 3 of them, I couldn't believe how big they were all getting. Jeremy was beginning to have small conversations and do a few little things himself, Heather was walking and saying a few works and Junior was beginning to crawl around and baby babble. He made me laugh so much he would watch the other two walk and I would stand him up and he would try to figure out walking with such a determined face.Once my father left I got the kids in the bath and ready for bed, I had a text from the Unknown number Unknown Number: Steve would like a bag pac
He paused for a moment, “Okay Ma’am, we found a body in Junction creek this evening, prints came back to your husband, Steve Reid.”I starred into the dark, I shook my head. “There is no way! I talked to him a bit earlier, he was okay. I did everything he asked.”I felt the tears fill my eyes As I tried to process everything,“I guess you didn’t listen did you.” The officer spat out.I looked around the room, it was pitch dark. I looked at my phone, there was no call tonight. It must have been a dream. I was trying to calm myself down, as I thought about what happened in the dream. I ran towards the window and saw our car parked outside. I immediately ran from room to room checking on the kids and searching for Steve. The kids were all sleeping but there was no sight of Steve. I looked at my phone and saw the unknown number text messages, I guess only part of it was a dream.I put a robe on and headed outside to the car, I opened the door. The car wasn’t locked and it had Stev
