Emile’s side wasn’t without her fair share of excitement, although Emile was depressed for the first two days after Chris left especially since she knew that he wouldn’t coming this week. She just pretended to be strong in front of him as she didn’t want him to feel any guiltier than he was already feeling. She put all her energy into the assignments that Raphael gave her since the earlier she finished, the earlier she could go home, to be with her beloved husband. She had to admit that even though she was married twice and even though both times she married the men she really loved, the feeling was different. It was really different to be in a marriage where she was loved and cherished. With Chris, she could be herself, be spoiled, be unreasonable and yet no matter which version of herself she was……. She was still loved and cherished and treasured as the most priced possession by him. On the third day after Chris’s departure, Raphael’s men bought news. From all the investigation th
“Now that you know everything, what do you plan to do?” Emile asked cautiously. She didn’t know what choice Grace would make. 20 years was a long time; she didn’t know Grace’s attitude towards Darcy. Would she resent him? Would she be able to forgive him for not finding her sooner? “Huh?” Grace raised her head to look at Emile in confusion. She had never anticipated to have a day like today…. let alone be asked this question or more accurately have to answer this question. “I am not here to take you back.” Emile shrugged as she winked mischievously “I just wanted to see the woman my husband admires, regrets not having as his sister-in-law.” “And to see the woman who stole second brother-in-law’s soul.” Emile giggled without giving Grace any face. Grace “” “Jokes aside” Emile’s stopped joking after mucking around “I have told you everything I know. But that does not place me on a moral high ground to be judge and executioner. I only know hearsay of one side of the story.” “My gran
Two days later, Grace bid farewell to her team and set off with Emile. She had no idea what to expect but she didn’t want to miss it if there was a chance. She had missed 20 years; she didn’t want to miss another 20 years. Raphael had no idea what two women who had never met had to talk about; from the time they met they had been chatting non-stop. They had just stopped chatting but that was only because Emile who was pregnant and had fallen asleep in the middle of a conversation. Luckily, Grace didn’t take any offence; she only shrugged, smiling helplessly as she called a flight attendant to get a blanket to cover Emile. Emile was still sleeping when they touched down 17 hours later. Anne and Dolly took on the task of waking her after Grace failed miserably. Emile sat on the flight with a pout as she hadn’t slept enough. However, she soon changed her expression into a sweet smile as she saw Grace looking at her with an amused smile. “Ha…. ha…ha…” Raphael laughed loudly without givi
Grace was settled in comfortably in one of the apartments in the East Wing of the Dupont estate along with Emile. Danos was very efficient; everything that Grace needed was set in the room even before they landed in Paris. Setting into Paris time wasn’t hard as they reached back by late afternoon, and everyone slept through the night and woke up naturally the next day. Emile and Raphael spent the morning finalizing the last few designs before organizing the meeting with Laura, the le couturier, by the end of next week. If everything went according to plan, once the meeting was over, Emile could go back to be with Chris. The next steps didn’t need her to be here. She could liaise with Laura remotely. Her physical presence was only required during the fashion exhibition week. Emile worked as though she was injected with fresh blood. She didn’t feel tired, nor did she feel like she needed a break. Emile felt as though she had met her muse; ideas flowed without any inhibition, all she n
Grace’s curiosity was left unsatisfied as not only couldn’t she see anything from her window, but there was also not even a sound to calm her curiosity. The sound of the car entering the estate seemed to have been a figment of her imagination. Grace sighed wondering if she really imagined the sound of the car as she drew the curtains back and went back to her work. Grace couldn’t be blamed as once the car entered the gates, the view to the winding path down to the front door was obscured by the ornamental pear trees that were lining the path. Neither were there any disturbances at the front door. How could poor Grace know that Danos was waiting at the front door awaiting the arrival of the car that had just entered the estate? It had become routine for them after 3 months; Chris would arrive like clockwork. Everyone silently dispersed to their rooms to catch up on what sleep they could catch up on before the world was lit up again. Chris moved swiftly and quietly as he entered the r
Chris had no idea when he fell asleep amidst his messy thoughts. But regardless of when he slept, waking up along with the first rays of sun had been a habit that was hard to shake off. Although he had woken up long ago, he didn’t feel like leaving the comfort of snuggling with his beloved wife. Emile woke up with a happy smile “Good morning, Hubby.” “Good morning, Love” Chris gave her a quick peck on her lips as he helped her up. “Are these tiny tots behaving?” Chris leaned forward and put his head next to her tummy. “Um” Emile smiled blissfully looking at the man whose whole world revolved around her. Whether it was agreeing with her saying they were well-behaved or whether it was in disdain towards their father’s question, the tiny tots kicked happily. Raphael was waiting for them when they came downstairs for breakfast. Grace knew that Emile wanted to give Chris a surprise and after hearing from Anne that Chris had come over at night, she didn’t come down for breakfast; Instea
The three of them spent all morning getting to know each other all over again. It was only when Dolly came to urge them to eat lunch that they realized that the whole morning had passed. Lunch was eaten quietly with respect to the rules of Dupont estate. What no one realized was that Raphael didn’t really have any rules… it was just that he was alone almost all his life and there was no one to talk to at the dining table. The only people who would talk was the butler or various managers who came around to discuss business. He didn’t want to talk about work during lunch and wanted some peace of mind while eating and would often reprimand them for being noisy during mealtimes. Over time, silence during meals became one of the rules of Dupont estate. After lunch, the three of them went back to the garden parlor to continue discussing what to do next. “Grace, what do you think of delaying your reunion for another week and a half?” Chris asked with a half guilty face. “Let me guess…” G
The weekend passed with the excitement of finding Grace and sweetness of husband-and-wife meeting after being separated for 2 weeks. What Raphael was worried about didn’t come to fruition and finally it was time for Chris to head back. Originally Chris and Emile had planned to fly to Burke residence first and then fly back to Walter home but since they found Grace, they decided to fly straight back. Plans change…. just like life, People who are flexible don’t have to be worried about being prepared because they are conditioned to be prepared. Chris and Emile discussed with Raphael the next steps and what was required once Emile completed the last design. Despite Emile’s strong objections, they decided that Chris would come over next week to take them home. “Son, I am sorry.” Raphael finally opened his mouth after the ladies went upstairs. Grace went upstairs as she called it a day and Emile went upstairs to pack Chris’s stuff as he had to leave in another hour. “Huh?” Chris looked
