Chapter: Thirty-Five
Xavier stood completely frozen, staring at Jess, staring at herself. For yet another time, his mate brought fear into his heart. Did the scars bring back Jess’s memories? Did the alphas already lose their second chance? Xavier heard as his brothers stormed down the hall into her room, they froze as they saw the seen before them. All of them holding their breaths. Wanting, no needing to know if they had already lost her again. Jess’s eyes teared up, she moved closer to the mirror and ran her finger over one of the harsh red imprints on her skin. Jess could not believe what she was reading, each page she turned she thought that she could not be any more shocked, but then she flipped to the next page. The books she was read was meant for wolves who are mated to other wolves, so the boys told her that not everything would be so accurate as what the book said, but she was still astonished. “Are you really going to do this?” Xavier asked as he looked at Matthew and Raymond moving the sofa and Joshua who looked at them. Matthew was the first one who of course agreed with Jess’s plan, but strangely enough Raymond also agreed, and Joshua didn’t argue, which basically means yes to him.“Come on, Xavier. It’s going to be fun.” Jess said as she brought more blankets and pillows. He sighed and rolled his eyes, realizing that he already lost the battle.“Fine, but then I’ll need liquid courage.” Xavier said and walked out of the room only to return later with glasses in his hand and a bottle filled with a brown liquid inside. He poured some of the liquid in three glasses and handed them to his brother, before pouring himself a glass and finding a place to sit. Jess woke up in the middle of the voice, her head was hurting a bit. Jess sat up in bed and was relieved to find a glass of water next to her. When she went to reach for it, she was stopped by a heavy hand that rested in hers. She followed the arm, to find that at the end of it was Matthew. He was sleeping on the ground in a sitting position, his back against her bed and the hand she held was in an uncomfortable position. She gently let go of his hand and placed it softly down on his lap. She pulled herself up and surveil the room, that was lit due to her bed-lamp that was on. Joshua was sleeping on the edge of the beds one corner, while Raymond slept on one of the bigger sofas in her room and Xavier was laying down on the fluffy mate in her room. Jess felt so bad as she remembered begging them to stay in her room, the bed had more than enough space for some of them to stay on it, but she knew they were trying to respect her privacy. I told them before you came that they should speak to you about it.” Sarah said as she lifted her hands in defense.“You did? Thank you. See, I just don’t get it, if we can see that they should have talked to me first, how can’t they?” Jess said, feeling fired up. Sarah smiled again.“Duh, the answer is obvious, because they are men.” Sarah said and laughed; Jess laughed as well at her comment. Jess was so annoyed, due to her fight with the boys, she never went to eat that night, because she was determined not to see them, but since she was so angry, she couldn’t sleep that night either. She kept tossing and turning, her mind still focused on the boys. So, it was safe to say with an empty stomach and no sleep she was not in the best mood. The boys had also not gotten any sleep, their wolves desperately wanting their mates close to them like the previous night. The more Jess ignored them the more irritated they felt. So, when morning came and it was time to finally go to school, the tension was high. Jess hadn’t greeted any of the boys as she made her way to the floor below them to eat breakfast with Sarah and Mike. But none of them had an appetite with the foul mood they were in. Jess, Raymond and Matthew sat in the kitchen, Jess sat on Raymond’s lap as she was rolling a piece of bread in her hands, forming a ball.“You have to catch this one, Matt.” Jess said and gave him a pointed look, before lifting her arm and throwing the bread across the room, hoping it would go into Matt’s mouth. The bread flew across the room and landed on the floor; it was nowhere near Matt’s face.“You suck at throwing, love. That wasn’t even close to my face.” Matthew laughed at Jessica. Who knew a person could be such a bad thrower even if the distance was only the width of a dining-room-table? Matthew broke off a piece of bread and rolled it into a ball as Jess huffed at Matthew’s statement. She didn’t believe that she was a bad thrower, but it was Matthew who was a bad catcher. Jess sat in the living room with all the boys. Joshua stood against the wall while Matt, Ray and Zav all sat in separate chairs. No one wanted to be the first to speak, but they knew someone had too. Chapter: Forty-threeThings change after Jess learned the truth of the boy’s past. She felt closer to them then before and they were more open with her as more time passed. Things were great between then. They would fall asleep in someone’s room every night, have breakfast together, always joking with one another and they spent almost the entire day together.Jess liked that she was learning herself with the boys. If it wasn’t for Matthew, Jess would have never known that she hated running and if it wasn’t for Joshua, Jess would have never known that she is great at lying when it come to sparing someone else feelings.
