Beta Harth’s POVI’m with the scout team to find out what happened to Mason and Lily. “Sir, should we go up to their gate or is this a recon mission?” “Let’s announce ourselves. We don’t want to provoke them even more.” I hope this goes well, starting a war is not in anyone’s best interests. We walk up to their gate to announce ourselves. We are greeted by two warriors.“Stop and identify yourselves.” One of the warriors says.“I am Beta Harth from Elk Forest Pack. We have come to see Alpha Julian.” The guards look at each other in confusion. “Alpha Julian is dead.” The other guard says. I’m completely thrown off by what he’s saying.“What? How?” I ask.“He was challenged for the Alpha seat and lost to his son Dawson.” Dawson is now the new Alpha, and he took it through a challenge. Which means Julian wouldn’t hand the position over to him so, he took it by force. Something bad is definitely going on here. “What about my daughter Keira?”
Keira’s POVPale Moon Pack watched Dawson kill his father and take over as Alpha. What is going on in that pack.“What about what you told Keira about her friends. Is that true?” Theo asks.“Of course it’s true.”“Dawson kidnapped the future Alpha of Elk Forest Pack. Has he completely lost his mind?” I ask.“Wait, your friend is the future Alpha?” Theo asks.“Yeah, Mason and I grew up together. He was the Alpha’s son, I was the Beta’s daughter… and we were the same age.” I explain.“They came right to the pack looking for you. They over heard Alpha Dawson talking about you, so they couldn’t just let them go. So we decided to use it as a way to get you to come back. We wouldn’t have to bring you back ourselves. We’d just drop the news on you and you’d come running back. That’s what Alpha told us to do.” He’s right. As soon as I heard what he said I wanted to go rescue them. “Have you reported finding her?” Theo asks.“No, but if we don’t che
Keira’s POVThat night it was hard for me to sleep. I didn’t feel at ease and I kept thinking about everything that’s happen today. I know everything is changing and I feel like I’m the cause. If I never became Dawson’s mate, his father would still be alive. Maybe I’m not a good mate? I’ve never been a mate before, heck I’ve never been in a relationship before. There was this assumption that I’d end up with Mason. I get up from bed frustrated and tired. I get dressed and head out of my apartment. The cool night air feels good and the streets are quiet. I just walk down the sidewalk thinking about Shepard. I know I should be thinking about my family, and the war brewing between Pale Moon pack and Elk Forest. But For some reason Shepard’s face pops into my mind. The look in his face when he learned the truth about me. He looked so hurt. I’ve never felt so distant from him since meeting him. His face hurt me. I feel bad I lied to him. I wish we could have met under different
Keira’s POVThe next morning Alpha Theo asks for me to come to his office. I walk up to the pack house to meet him. But first I’m met by Shepard. “Good morning.” Shepard says.“Morning.”“Are you headed to see Theo?” He asks.“Yeah.”“Great, I’ll join you.” We walk inside and head towards the Alpha’s office. Shepard walks in with out even knocking. “Morning Theo.” Shepard says.“I see we aren’t knocking today.” Theo says. Shepard laughs and takes a seat in front of Theo’s desk.“Well you seem to be in a better mood.” Theo notices. “Would you rather I be a grump all the time like you?” Shepard asks.“I’ll ignore that. Good morning Keira.” Theo turns to me.“Good morning Alpha.” I say.“Have a seat I think we need to finalize our plans.” Theo says. I take a seat next to Shepard.“I’m afraid we’re going to have to get involved with what’s going on.” “How so?” Shepard asks.“I don’t want to put your pack in danger.” I say. Theo raises his hand.“Not the pack, just us. I think it woul
Theo’s POVShepard and Keira leave the office to get ready for their trip to Elk Forest. I call Grace for into my office for one last meeting before I leave. There is a knock at the door.“Come in.” I say. Grace enters the office and closes the door. Every time I see Grace I feel a sense of ease. After my mother died, it felt like Grace tried to fill the void. I wasn’t the easiest child. I know I don’t express myself or my feelings very well. I know I relied on my knowledge and my status to get me through my life. But recently I’ve found myself wanting something different, something more.“You wanted to see me.” Grace says.“Yes, I’m about to head out and I wanted to know if you had any questions for me.”“I have one, but is not about filling in for you.” She says.“Go on.”“Why are you doing this?” I’m taken a back by her question. “Should I not help Keira and the two largest packs keep the peace?” I ask. I know I’m avoiding the question. I st
Dawson’s POV“Have we heard from Shadow Pack yet?” I ask Harrison.“Nothing yet.” He says. I scream a cry of rage and knock everything off my desk.“What are these guys even doing? They are worthless. They can’t find one girl?! ONE girl?!” I say.“Sir, we should talk about Elk Forest. We have been given word their army will be approaching soon. It looks as though war is inevitable.” Harrison says. I never thought they’d actually come here, but I guess taking their future Alpha is a problem.“Have our warriors battle ready. I’m not backing down. If Elk Forest wants to be wiped out in the process, so be it.” Harrison looks unsure, but he holds his tongue.“Yes sir.” He turns and leaves. I won’t lose. I’m the Alpha now. Beta Harth’s POV“Our warriors are almost to the border.” Gamma tells me.“Good. We’ll gather just outside the edge.” “So you think he’ll back down?” He asks. Suddenly the Alpha walks in.“Harth what is the status of o
Keira’s POVShepherd and I drive to my pack lands. It feels like forever since I’ve been home. I wonder how everyone has been. I think I’m getting a bit nervous. “Are you okay?” Shepard asks me.“Yeah, I’m a bit nervous I guess. It’s been a while since I’ve been home. Honestly, I feel like someone returning home after losing a battle. I know I have to tell everyone what’s been going on. I just don’t want them to look at me like I’m pitiful or weak. I was always one of the better fighters in my pack. But when I was with Dawson, the idea of hurting him and fighting back never even crossed my mind. It felt like he had such control over me. And the thought of leaving him, meant I’d be leaving the people of his pack too. I really grew to love and care about all of them. I constantly fought with my wolf over it.” I tell him.“Thats probably a common feeling for fated mates. It’s not a feeling everyone would understand. And I don’t think you’re weak. I think you’re pr
Dawsons POVOur warriors are in position and waiting for Elk Forest to attack. Elk Forest has attempted to contact me, but I’ve turned them away. There is nothing they can say to change this pending war. Suddenly there’s a knock at my office door.“Come in.” I say. In walks Harrison, and with him the leader of the Shadow pack.“Leon, please tell me you’re here with something.” It’s been over a month and they haven’t found even a trace of Keira. I’m paying them too much for no results.“Alpha Dawson, yes I’ve come here with the location of your mate.” I stand from my desk in excitement.“Go on.”“Two scouts found her in a pack called Cedar Creek.”“Cedar Creek? I’ve never even heard of them.”“They are a smaller pack to the north. Apparently she’s become friendly with the Alpha and Beta of the pack. My scouts were captured and interrogated by them, but managed to escape with some help.” “She’s been hiding in some no name pack and flirting wi
