Chapter Twenty-three: IT ONLY HAPPENED ONCE

"Your coffee, My Alpha!"

Maeve set the steaming coffee on my home office desk with her head slightly bowed.

I swiveled the chair around to face the lady. Her gaze wavered on my desk as she stood solemnly before me.

"What was she like?"

My gaze roamed from the napkin she was fiddling to her flushed and confused face.

"Forgive my unclarity..."

"Allison." I intercepted, swiveling away from her.

The more I stared at the poor lady the more nervous she grew and the more wary she became. I needed her to empty her guts. Looking away was the only way to.

"She wanted to learn hieroglyphs. It was her dream to read. Allison loved horses and hoped to ride one someday. I hope she can do that now."

I processed Maeve's words a little longer than necessary before I dismissed her.

The coffee was still untouched on my desk. I was unsure if I wanted to work that night. My mind was in a constant swirl, thoughts of how Allison was holding up at Hornsgate with Grimsby plagued my soul.
