Chapter 7

Aubree's Pov

*Then* (PS Then means we're talking about the past and now will be the present time)

I did not have any idea that I would meet the guy on whom I spilled coke ever again, let alone that guy being my future husband, like how does the Universe work?

But it seemed like the more I try to run from something, the more it comes to me. Well, whatever it was, the good stars, fate or luck, I met him again.

The next day, I reached the cafeteria and was surprised to see that my best friend Laura was talking with a guy, the same guy on whom I spilled my coke.

"And this is my best friend Aubree." She gestured me while she made me feel so very uncomfortable.

"And Aubree, this is my friend Jaden. We have the same economics class." She introduced him to me.

"I remember you. We met yesterday at the cafeteria." Jaden said and smiled.

I blushed. But at the same time, I became envy of Laura, she already knew him so very well. And here I was, the guy who I liked did not even know me. I know I sound very mean and bad, but yes I hated my best friend because she already knew the guy I had a crush on.

Oh how sad I felt at that moment. Why could I not have taken the economics class? Then he would have had been with me in the class, I would have known him beforehand.

"Hey Jaden, so sorry about yesterday." I apologised to him yet again while, we sat in the cafeteria for lunch.

"It was just an accident, don't worry." He said and smiled at me.

"Why what happened?" Laura asked, and I told her about me spilling coke on him earlier.

"So what? That was nothing. I intentionally spilled water all over him a week ago at Ira's party." she told and they both began to laugh.

"Oh yeah that was fun. Then I pushed you in the pool, and I still remember how pissed you were." Jaden said and they both began to laugh.

So my best friend and Jaden were so very close? Were they dating already? Because by the looks of it, it felt so. I had been so stupid to think that I had a chance with him. I had just met him and I expected him to like me.

Ira's party was the only party that I denied to attend and when I was completing my assignments, Laura was having fun with him. It felt so bad to know that he was going out with my best friend. But I was ready to accept them as that. After all, who was I to come between those two? I felt so jealous, stop Aubree, no she's your best friend, be happy for her.

"Okay so, Aubree, what do you want to be?" Jaden asked me, and just for a mere second I thought that maybe, they were not together.

"I am going to be a designer." I told him and he nodded his head.

"My mom is an interior designer. I know how these things work. All the best for that." He said and smiled at me.

"Aubree, are you coming to Nathan's party tonight?" Laura asked me and I nodded. I may have missed one party, but not now, and mainly, it was my best friend's party, and I was not going to miss that out of anything. I wasn't the shy type of a girl, I was more social than I had been back at high school, and I was ready to attend this party.

"Great! We can go there together." Laura said and I smiled at her.

"So I'll meet you two at the party." Jaden said and went away.

"So you and Jaden huh?" I winked at Laura. Though I know that I had a crush on Jaden, but still, I could not in my entire life betray a friend because of it. I loved Laura, and I could leave a million guys if it meant to save our friendship.

"What! No! He's just my friend. I don't have my eyes for him. It's Nathan stupid." She said and blushed.

I don't know why, but a heavy burden just got lifted up from my chest, and for a mere second I thought that just maybe, it was possible between us.

"So you like Nathan? As in my high school best friend?" I asked her.

"Okay yes I do. I like him. Now come we shall dress to impress." she said and we went away.

That same evening, Laura came to my dorm with her dress and asked me to do her hair and makeup. I was already proficient in these skills, and in just an hour, both of us were ready for the party.

Laura told me that she was seeing Nathan since a while and since Jaden was his friend, they used to tag along.

After getting ready, Laura took her car and told me to sit in it. Afterall, going in two cars was not an option because of the lack in parking area during the parties.

We reached his home and found that we had to park the car two blocks away as the neighbourhood was already packed up.

Nathan's home was huge. It seemed like his parents were loaded. Nathan and I had gone to the same high school, and we did get along pretty well. After coming to NYU, his parents had brought him a flat where he used to host parties almost every weekend.

"Gosh! I hope it does work out between me and Nathan, I really like him." Laura said and brushed her brown wavy hair with her hands. Laura was wearing a black cocktail dress and her hair was neatly combed, while her waves reached her shoulders. Her green eyes were complimented with a green eye shadow that made her look even prettier.

While I was wearing a blue off shoulder top with black jeans and my long brown locks reached my back, I always believed in keeping things simple and classy in the beginning, that way I could stand out when the timing was right.

We both got up and went into the house.

"Well, well, if it is not the hot cheerleader from Everton High!" Came a voice from behind.

We both turned and saw Nathan, who came with two drinks in his hand, while he offered it to me and Laura.

"Hey Nathan! Nice to meet you." I said and took the drink he offered me. I used to be a cheerleader back at high school and Nathan had been my friend as he was on the basketball team. We used to practice together, him his basketball, and me with my cheer squad, and in no time we began best buddies as we all started to hang out together. He had just gotten his heart broken by my arch nemises, and I tried to make him feel better by talking to him, one ting led to the other and we became best friends. Even though almot all of the school thought that we had something or the other going on between us, our relationship was always just friends, so much so that even our parents knew that. Laura was the first person who knew that and decided to be our friend, and now she was pursuing him, I couldn't be happier for that.

While Nathan and I caught up with out lives, I noticed that Nathan was now holding Laura in his arms, indicating it was time for me to go and leave them alone for a while.

"Hey Jaden, man come up here." Nathan called his new friend towards them.

Jaden emerged from the crowd, wearing a black T shirt, and his hair still in a messy way, above his head while a subtle beard was growing on his face. He looked hot and almost every girl seemed to have her eyes on him, even me.

He approached towards us and looked at me, his eyes lingered on me while I felt a tingling sensation all over my body. He must like me, maybe.

"Hey Nathaniel, you look great." He said and fist bumbed Nathan while Laura and I laughed at them.

"Hey Laura, and hey hotness." He said and winked at me.

He said I look hot! Wasn't that what I wanted to hear? He said I look hot! He must really like me.

We began to talk for a while and soon, I saw that Laura and Nathan had started to become a bit cozy, so Jaden and I left them alone and went to the pool area where we were surrounded by the other college students, drinking and playing games.

It was great, just me and Jaden together, while Laura was with Nathan. Maybe, it really was possible between us.

"Aubree don't go, lets have fun together, I missed you at the last party" Nathan called out and Jaden and I turend back towards my best friend.

"I was thinking of giving you two some time. But if you want we can hang out together for some more time." I said and saw how Nathan became so happy on hearing this, but Laura's face dropped. I knew she wanted to spend some time alone with him.

Neverthless, we started to play some games like beer pong and everything was going on too well. I was in Jaden's team and I was having fun, getting to know him. While on the other end Nathan and Laura were crushing us in the game.

Some time later, Laura dragged me into the bathroom with her.

"I'm having so much fun!!" I said while trying to fix my hair in the mirror.

"What the hell are you doing?" Laura asked me and I was shocked, I knew she wanted to hang out with Nathan alone, but I don't think he was comfortable being alone with her for now. Ever since he had his heart broken, he always had his guard up and did not let anyone in.

"What are you talking about?" i asked her, though I knew what she meant, but I was drunk and nothing made sense.

"Are all the rumors true? That you and Nathan are a thing and that is why you are trying to sabotage any chance that I ever had with him?" She asked me.

"Laura you do know that is not true at all." I said and held her hands.

"Then why the hell won't you leave him the hell alone. Anytime I try to get close to him, you have to come near and ruin everything." she screamed and left my hands.

"You do know how difficult it is for him to open his heart to others, don't you?" I said and she shrugged.

"You don't have any idea what I have been through in my life and you are trying to ruin every chance that I ever had for love." she said. She always told me how difficult her childhood was, but never what happened that ruined it, and she wasn't ready to tell, she said she would when she was ready and I supported her decision everytime.

"Laura, I'm sorry if you felt that I tried to ruin your chance for love, I'll leave you two alone and go out with Jaden. Have fun with Nathan." I said and stormed out of the bathroom.

I was mean to her, but I knew we would make up with each other when we would be sober. I went out and grabbed Jaden and went out to hang out with other friends.
