“Don’t leave, I want to see you.” I said to him,

I didn’t need to explain any further even as understanding dawned on him. Together, we made our way towards the small private hall where we couldn’t be disturbed.

"Why, Marcus?" I demanded, my voice laced with frustration and confusion. "Why didn't you go through with it? We had a plan, and you backed out at the last moment. Do you realize what this means for us?"

Marcus, ever confident, closed the distance between us with measured steps. His gaze bore into mine, unwavering despite my intense scrutiny. I could feel his hands, warm and steady, as they found their way around my waist, a gesture that both comforted and unsettled me.

"Amanda," he began, his voice low and tinged with a hint of defiance, "I did what I thought was best for both of us."

I couldn't hide my disbelief. "Protecting me? Is that what you call it?" I retorted, my tone sharp.

"By not following through with our plan, you've put us at risk. Zane won't take this
