I stared at Henry with disbelief for a long while; he was being serious. 

“I don’t understand,” I finally said, narrowing my eyes at him. “This wasn’t even my idea, it was Theo’s. We don’t have a choice.” 

“We always have a choice, Erin. I don’t think it’s a good idea,” he said, shaking his head. “I’m putting my foot down and pulling you out of this.” 

“What has gotten into you, Henry?” I asked, folding my arms across my chest. “Where have you been?” 

“It doesn’t matter. But as your partner, I think this is a terrible idea. I don’t trust Gavin and I think he’s leading you right to the Killers and the Slayers. He’s doing it on purpose.”

“You don’t know what you are talking about,” I said in return. “Gavin would never betray me.”
