Chapter 6

‘Welcome home Lor'.

Garret's voice was laced with scorn and alcohol it was so heavy that I shivered in fear.

‘Thank you'

He got up and stared at my face. My hand instinctively went to my neck where the hickey was trying to hide it. But it was too late. Garrett had seen it.

He grabbed my hair and his hand connected with my face.

‘you went around whoring and came back way past your curfew'.

‘please.. please stop' I pleaded trying to pry his hands away from my hair but he pulled it harder and threw me against the wall.

His slaps came and the blows followed. I curled on the ground trying to protect myself.

‘How could you? How could you when I work my ass off to pay for your sister's bills’

Guilt well inside me when he mentioned my sister hospital bills.

He knew that was the only way to break me.

‘you shouldn't be like that to me Lor'. He whispered in my ears.

‘That sick girl drugs cost a fortune you know’. His voice was laced with hate. ‘you should not spread your legs for a loser who don't pay your bills'

‘you belong to me Lorie.’ He said before leaving the room.

As I lay down to sleep that night, the excruciating pain below my ribs made me so uncomfortable but I couldn't complain. I didn't have where else to go to neither do I have someone who would offer to pay Elle’s bills.

My heart was filled with hate for Garrett. It made me wonder why and how I had even loved him. His family business was going well and he had enough money to keep Elle alive.

I wanted to curse out.

I wanted to scream and curse whosoever it was that was responsible for Elle’s illness.

She don't deserve this.

I don't deserve this either.

I want to live a good life like my normal friends.

I want to go to parties and have fun.

I want to do whatever it is that people my age do.

Tears slid down my eyes but I furiously wiped it off.

I wasn't going to let that bastard win.

I wouldn't cry because of him anymore.

He doesn't deserve it.

I slept with the thought of a familiar face in my head.

One I wanted to see again.

*~*

The next day at work was very awkward. I tried avoiding Asher but it was impossible because he is my boss and I am his secretary.

It wasn't because we slept with each other that made me feel awkward. It was because my heart could not stop beating fast when I saw him.

The phone rang beside me making me jump.

‘Hello s.. sir'

‘Get me coffee. I want it dark and sweet'

‘sure..’

He hung up without waiting for me to reply.

Rude jerk.

I got up and walked down to the elevator. The kitchen was downstairs.

I met Jasmine in the kitchen. Her boss too had sent her to the kitchen for coffee.

‘Jas I want mine black and sweet' I said slumping down on the nearest couch.

‘You don't drink black Coffee.’ She replied reaching for the coffee beans.

‘It's for Asher' his name slipped out of my mouth before I could stop myself.

‘hmm interesting, since when did you start calling your boss by his first name Lorie?’ she asked eyeing me suspiciously.

‘oops my bad'

‘Don't give me that excuse Lorie. Spill the beans' she said approaching me like a tiger carefully approaching it's prey.

‘Jas it's nothing really.’ I replied getting up from my seat wanting to run away from her. She would definitely make me spill the beans.

‘sit down dear’ she commanded while pushing me down the couch.

‘Yes ma!’

‘So?’

‘Nothing really, it's just that he is still young. He's not that old so I decided to call him his name'. I smiled sheepishly.

And as expected she didn't look convinced.

‘Lorie I know you can be a little sick in the head but calling your boss his first name in the office is not normal' she glared at me as if she was lecturing a six year old to stop cursing.

‘yes ma'. I smiled at her showing my thirty-two canines

‘my coffee please' I fluttered my lashes while smiling.

‘My Boss awaits my arrival' I added with a bow.

She handed me the coffee while giving me the ‘you are gonna tell me everything later' look.

‘you are the best Jas!!’ I shouted running off to my office.

I had wasted time in the kitchen and crossing my boss was definitely not in my to do list.

*~*

‘You are late'

That was the first thing he said immediately I entered the office.

Oh You are welcome was what I wanted to say but I decided against it. My pay check matters more than his manners.

‘sorry sir.’

‘Too bad. I no longer crave coffee.’ He replied while adjusting his collar. He hadn't used a tie and his top button was opened.

I cleared my throat and looked away.

‘Get me a burger from the shop across' He ordered while burying his head into the paperwork on his desk.

‘definitely sir' I replied with very fake enthusiasm.

I closed the door making sure I banged it loudly.

I tried stopping myself from cursing at my boss.

But whatever he can’t even read my mind.

Rude jerk.

How can he make me run petty errands?

He didn't even look at me.

Wait.

Why do I want him to look at me?

I don't like my boss right?

The elevator opened and I walked in straight in then bumped against someone.

‘Ouch.’ He groaned clutching his head.

‘I'm so sorry. I wasn't really watching where I was going' I apologised the pain from my ribs were back.

‘watch where you're going miss.’ His voice came out grudgingly.

‘I'm sorry’. I apologised again.

His face was new.

I mean I don't know everyone in our company but at least everyone in the office was a bit familiar since we have cone across each other once or twice.

The elevator doors opened at the 2nd floor and he walked out. I noticed a strange ID on the floor.

‘you left this'. I picked it up and handed it to him.

He snatched it from my hand before leaving.

Some people are created to be rude.

‘Bastardo grosero’ I cursed the only Spanish I know at him before hurrying to the shop to get my boss a burger.
