Better Things

I slid the straps of Laina’s dress back up her arms before she swung her leg over and climbed back into the driver’s seat. She slumped against the back of the seat and closed her eyes. I watched her chest rise and fall and ached to be back inside her. But I had to get her home. It was late, and the rain had really started to come down. It was falling so heavily that it bounced off the hood of the car, and we could barely see farther than twenty or so feet down the street.

I zipped up my pants and patted her knee. “I’ll drive.”

She opened her eyes and smiled. “Thank you.”

We got out of the car and traded places. After she buckled herself up, I started the car and pulled out onto the street, and we headed back to my house to find the driveway empty.

“Did Rick say he was going out tonight too?” Laina asked.
