KATE went straight to the master’s bedroom when she arrived from the clinic. She had her first check-up since she learned that she was pregnant. Now it was confirmed that she was indeed carrying Jan’s child in her womb. She could not help but feel sad when the doctor asked about the father; all she could say was he was away at the moment due to an incident. Kate did not want to presume he was dead unless she saw his corpse.
