Chapter 10

Verian heaved a sigh and sat down beside Little Jelly Bean. She looked at her and said, “Your name is Little Jelly Bean, am I right?”

The little munchkin frowned and glared at her. “Did the principal tell you my name?”

“You’re so cute and you have such a nice name. Why are you fighting with the other kids?”

Little Jelly Bean crossed her arms. “Hmphh! They all said that I’m a liar! Jelly Bean doesn’t lie! They don’t want to play with me; I don’t want to play with them too!”

The little munchkin turned her fair and tender face aside. Verian could not help but to laugh at the little girl trying to be arrogant. “I believe that Little Jelly Bean is not a liar, but it’s not right to hit other people, Jelly Bean.”

The little munchkin pouted her lips high and remained silent. Verian continued speaking in a soft tone, “I’m sure you can’t defeat all of them by yourself. Next time, tell me if they say you’re lying. Then, I’ll explain it to them for you, is that ok?”

Little Jelly Bean turned her head around and fixed her gaze at Verian with her big dewy eyes. “Who are you? Why are you helping me?”

“My name is Verian Mont. Hmm…you might have to call me Teacher Mont in the future. So, can you tell me now why did the kids call you a liar?”

The little munchkin sighed when Verian mentioned the issue. She said sadly, “Cherry and the others said that I don’t have parents, but I have parents, they’re the ones who have never seen my parents before!”

“Ahh…I see. So, who usually sends you to school and picks you up after school?”

“My grandpa.”

Looking at the kid in front of her, Verian was reminded of the child she gave birth to three years ago when she served as a surrogate mother. If the child was still healthy, she should be almost the same age as Little Jelly Bean now.

“What about your parents?”

“Daddy said he had to work to earn money so he can bring me to the zoo. We want to visit the tigers and lions.”

‘So, her father was too busy working to spend time with her.’

Verian could not help but asked again, “Where is your mother then?”

Verian was not sure if she touched the kid’s sore spot. The little munchkin’s dewy eyes turned red when they were talking about her mother. She puffed her chubby cheeks and said, “Daddy said that mummy is on Mars. Mars is too hot and Jelly Bean is too young. So, Jelly Bean cannot visit mummy.”

Verian frowned. Did the kid’s parents get a divorce and lived apart since she was born?

‘What a pity kid. She lost her mother at such a young age, and her father was too busy to spend time with her.’

Verian fished out a fruit candy from her bag and handed it over to her. “If you miss your mummy, eat this candy. You will be happy then.”

The little munchkin looked at the candy hesitantly. “Daddy said I’m not allowed to eat food from strangers, especially from strange aunties!”

‘This kid is quite defensive!’

Verian fished out another candy and plopped it into her mouth. “I’ll eat the candy together with Little Jelly Bean, is that ok?”

Little Jelly Bean licked her lips and stared at the candy with eager eyes. Verian smiled lightly, opened the wrapper, and put the candy into her mouth. “Eat it, it’s not poisoned.”

The little munchkin squinted her eyes happily as she felt the sweet and sour taste in her mouth.

Verian caressed the little munchkin’s head. “Is it yummy?”

“Yummy.” Little Jelly Bean finally grinned. She looked up at Verian with her adorable face and asked, “Can I call you Monty next time?”

“Sure. Then, you have to promise me that you won’t fight with the other kids, alright?”
