KADE POV

TWO WEEKS PRIOR: BEFORE THE DESTRUCTION OF HQ

I sat across from Chief who was sitting at his desk with his hands steepled. His jaw clenched as I explained what I knew about Evelyn’s undercover mission.

Machine stood behind me with his arms crossed. Ready to strike if needed. “So, Mr. Fleming, tell me why taking Ricci down is so important to you?”

Chief scoffed. “Why would I tell that to you when you’re the one in bed with Ricci?”

I let out a humorless laugh. “See that’s where you’re wrong.” I leaned back into my chair. Waiting for him to take the bait.

Chief leaned closer and clasped his hands over his desk. “Explain.”

“My father was in bed with Ricci. I, however, would like to exterminate the bed bug that he is for good. I may have assumed my father’s clientele, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have my own agenda and goals.”

He seemed to ponder my words for a moment before speaking. “Everyone on the team has a different reason as to why we want Ricci dead.”
