ADAM

I’d officially lost my goddamn mind.

This was unfamiliar territory for me. Of course, I should have stayed away. I had never pursued someone across another continent, but here I was, drawn to her like a moth to a flame.

But bullshit, why should I stay away? She was trembling with dread right now. I’d always considered Eloise as someone headstrong and sensible. I’d wondered a few times what could tame a woman like her, and now this: she felt exposed and vulnerable in my arms.

“Someone might still see us here, miss,” her friend interjected, glancing around anxiously. “Plus, it seems like you need some privacy. Will an hour be enough? I’ll wait at the side entrance.”

I didn’t get any information about her, but she seemed like she served the household. I invited her to come along because I wasn’t heartless enough to leave a person alone here in the middle of the night.
