Chapter 22

Monday couldn't have come any faster, given the constant aching feeling in my chest. Every thought was plagued with negativity and revolved around Nicholas and my father's killer. Over the weekend, I opted to stay home, mostly locked up in my room since my mother wasn't home during the day. I hadn't seen my two best friends, and neither had I seen Nicholas. I expected him to drag me to the doctor like he had said, so when Saturday was over, I was surprised.

"Is Dorian picking you up today?" My mother's voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

"Yes," I replied after clearing my throat, which was beginning to clog up with a lump. Thinking about Nicholas didn't make things easy for me, and I had to constantly battle tears.

"So eat up; you've barely touched your breakfast, honey. Is something wrong?" We were seated at the dining table, having bacon, sausages, and tea, but I wasn't even feeling hungry.

"Everything is okay, mom," I lied with ease.

"I know you talked to the detective." I
