I felt a sudden twitch in my face as Caroline's voice reached my ears. I tried to give her a wry smile as I got up and went to grab my bag. I couldn't stand being in the same room as her for much longer.
"Hey, Salena, aren't you going to try the red cherry wine?" Caroline said, grinning at me.
I took a deep breath and tried to keep my voice steady. "No, I don't think I will," I replied, my eyes darting away from her gaze.
Caroline had always been a thorn in my side, and tonight was no different. As I walked away, I heard Becky call my name. I turned to look at her, and she asked if I was okay. I nodded, not trusting myself to speak.
I half walked, half stomped away from the bar, my heels clicking on the ground. I needed to get out of there before I did something I would regret.
