CHAPTER FORTY-SIX

I drove us into the woods, and I knew she wondered why. Cocking her head in my direction, she stared at me, but I bore no emotions. I wanted to make up for my deed, and somehow I felt that she concluded that I probably wanted to spend the day with her.

That was true to an extent, but I had to be careful not to upset Horace, I knew he wouldn't take it lightly.

I kept on stealing glances at her, her face blank as she looked out the window, staring at the woods. It was the same route she took the night she tried to escape from me.

She wondered what I wanted us to do there. Our eyes met when I stepped on the brake, and my lips curled in a smile as I placed my hand on her tightly clenched fist.

There was nothing I wanted... other than her being comfortable around me.

I packed the car, and we stepped out. The weather wasn't great as we strolled.

My heart raced.

I had no idea what reaction she would display, but I was glad I did something for her.
