By the time we reach the shifter compound I'm calm. Depression and loneliness seeps into my skin as I look at the huge empty house. During the day the mansion is filled with paras moving about. At night with the exception of security, me, Gunner and my father; this place is a ghost town.
Blaze opens my door and helps me out the back of his vehicle. He escorts me to the house and opens the door. I head inside and he follows me to the stairs.
"Hey, babygirl." Blaze calls out.
"Yeah."
"For what it's worth. I feel you." He rubs his hand across his chest. Blaze is a vampire with abilities like mine and Romeo. We aren't your usual empaths. We don't just feel emotions. We can feel the physcial pain of those we love.
"And I don't think he's stupid enough to let his fated mate slip through his fingers." I nod my head and continue my trek up the stairs to my bedroom. I let the tears I'd been fighting all night quietly slip free. I was finally alone. Truly alone with the exception of security. But having security isn't the same as having Romeo when I was younger. Or having my father and Gunner here.
I removed the pins holding the tiara on my head. I gently place the tiara on my vanity. I slip out of my shoes and dress as I head for the shower. Standing under the spray of the showerhead; I wash away my tears. Once I got out of the shower there would be no more tears. Tomorrow was a new day.
I'll smile, laught, and fake my way through the new day like I have been doing for the last ten years. With that thought climb into bed not bothering to blow dry or brush my hair. I lay in bed listening to the sounds of the night until sleep takes me away.
I'm trapped in a dream about Romeo when the sounds of gun fire ring through. The sound of shouting and yelling fill the air. More gun shots. My heart pounds as I'm stuck in that in between state of consciousness and sleep. I hear the sounds of hurried footsteps climbing the stairs. My eyes finally open and panic floods me; as the noise registers in my mind.
I'm not dreaming. There are gun shots and yelling. And the pounding footsteps get closer. I'm frozen in place when the sound of my melt doorknob being broken fills the room. The door flies open hitting the wall with a bang. Relief fills me when I see it is only Blaze.
It was just a dream. At least that's what I tell myself. Until the gun fire returns.
"Hurry, Remi! We're running out of time!" Blaze tells me as he yanks me off the bed. He shoves me into the middle of my walk-in closet. I watch as he shoves my clothes out of the way. He roots around the wall of the closet until her finds the button for the secret door. Once he pushes the hiddne little button he has to scan his hand. The door hisses open and then he is shoving me inside the secret safe room.
"Wait! Just wait a second! What the hell is going on?" I ask pulling on his arm so he can't leave until I get my answers.
"We're under attack!" Blaze tells me as he hands my phone and emergency preparedness bag.
"Where's my dad? Where's Gunner?" I'm panicking and unless he tells me they're safe too. My panic will only worsen.
"I don't know. They should've been home hours ago. Babygirl, I need you to calm down. I need you to call your dad. Tell him it was a set up. Tell him we are out manned and we need backup yesterday!" I nod my head whipping tears from my face. None of Blaze's words eased my panic or fears. Blaze hugs me tightly. The door hisses as he shuts it. His eyes never leaving my face.
I slide down the wall as my legs can no longer keep me standing. Sobs wreck my body as I realize; I'm once again in a living breathing nightmare. I want to do nothing, but ball up on the floor and cry. When a warmth I haven't felt in forever fills my chest. It's almost as if Romeo were in the room with me telling me to be calm and do as I was instructed.
I pull my phone from my chest and find my father's name in my contact list. I it the green symbol on the screen and put the phone to my ear. The phone rings three times then a voice fills the silence.
This is Kieran; leave a message......
The sliver of hope I held now has a gaping whole. I don't even wait for the beep to leave a message. I hang up and try again. I try again and again.
Finally, I hear my father's voice, "Princess....." My heart wrenching sobs cut out his voice.
"Daddy, please..."More sobs bubble up and out as more guns are fired. They sound closer now.
"Princess what's wrong? What's all that noise?" Confusion, fear and anger can be heard in my father's voice.
"Daddy, they're in the house!"
"Who's in the house? What's going on?" His yelling and panic; scare me even more.
"I don't know who. Blaze said it was a set up. They're out manned. They need backup yesterday." I tell between hiccups and more sobbing.
"Remi, where are you? Where's your mother?"
"I'm in the saferoom. What do you mean where......." At that moment my mother's war cry vibrates the house. I can hear the clash of metal against metal. The only metal like objects that come together like the sound of lightening cracking is two angel blades. Another scream rips through the house. The walls shake around me. This time it wasn't her battle scream. It was the scream of pain. There's only been one other time I heard that scream. That was the night Romie died. Nothing can hurt my mother. Except one thing. The only thing that could me and Romie. An angel blade.
"Daddy, they got mom! Daddy help me! They got mom! Help us please!" I cry and shout into the phone. Another blood curling scream rips from my mother's chest. It echoes and vibrates through the walls. Lightening strikes and the thunder rattles the house. The smell of ozone has me off my ass. I'm up and moving toward the door.
"Remi, listen to me. Stay...." I drop the phone. I bang on the door.
"Mom! Mom!" I scream at the door as I bang on it some more. I realize I have to find the button to open the door. Once I find the button; the door once again hisses open.
"Remi....Princess! Please don't move! Stay in the saferoom! I'm coming!" I hear my father yell, but it does nothing to deter me. My mother screams once more. This time it is weaker. Lightening flashes and strikes all around the house. The thunder rattles the foundation of the mansion. But all I can think about is getting to my mother.
I'm running. Running. Running down three flights of stairs as fast as I can. I swipe at my tear filled eyes. I loose my footing and almsot topple down the second flight of stairs. Just as I reach the last stair into the huge opening of the sitting room and cloak myself; a hand yanks my hair. I'm yanked back into a chest of steel. A cold hand wraps around my throat lifting my up in the air and cutting off my air supply. I kick and scratch; tyring to fight my way loose. And failing.
The male carries me by my throat from the sitting room to the den; where my mother's lifeless body lays spread across the floor.
"Look what I finally found running around." The male says. His rancid breath fills my nostrils. I'm thrown to the floor. My knees hit hard, but that doesn't stop me from trying to reach my mother. I foot connects with my ribs and I fall over. I quickly climb back onto my hands and knees and crawl over to my mother.
I gently pull her head into my lap. I brush the pearl white blood away from her face. I pull the blood soaked hair off her swollen cheek. Memories of being in the same position ten years before assult my mind.
Even though it is useless I still silently plead in her ear. "Mom. Mom, please wake up! I need you! I'm sorry! Please wake up! I love you mom!"
But there is no reply. And the world's most beautiful hybrid in all of creation's soul is no more. Her black and violet wings lay spread out across the floor. I run my hands across her face closing her sad eyes. There's only one way to kill and angel, be it purebred or hybrid. And that's with an angel blade. A round sword looking thing with runes carved into it.
Remi! Remi, watch out! Blaze screams through our mind link. Ignoring the warning I look around the room for Blaze instead. My blood pumps faster, anger boils in my veins; when I see Blaze.
Blaze is crucified to the damn wall with silver stakes. My heart breaks even more. The rage and anger are building into a molten lava in my veins. My dragon surges to the surface. Scales begin to coat my arms and smoke spills from my nose. Just as fast as the shift was coming it is gone. It's shutdown with the click of handcuffs spelled against magic. Fear begins to replace the anger and rage.
My cold dead heart kicks into overdrive as a hand wraps around my throat once again.
"What....do....you....want?" I rasp out.
This chapter contains triggers. The male holding me up by the throat just chuckles. I'm lifted into the air and flung across the room like some rag doll. My back hits the wall and crumple to the floor. I ball up into myself. Despire takes hold of me. With the shackles around my wrists; I'm as useless as a mortal against these paras. The spelled handcuffs means no powers and no dragon. Even though I have been training with Gunner, Blaze, and on occassion Aiden; I can't fight my way through this. Not with my hands cuffed behind my back. There's only one thing left to do as I watch the male cross the room towards me. I pray. I pray to all the beings I know of to pray to. They didn't help me last time. But hopefully I have proven myself to be a good girl, and they help me this time. This time like last; I would have to such luck. I'm yanked off the floor and thrown at another wall. I hit the wall next to Blaze. When I look up; a male with a golden tooth smiles down at me. The smile is
Aiden's eyes never leave mine. I swear I see tears linger on his bottom eyelashes. But that could just be death playing tricks on me. "Remi!" My father's pain filled voice sounds a million miles away. "You're a dead motherfucker!" My father shouts coming closer into the room. Faces turn pale as Gold tooth raises up off of me. "Kieran, how nice of you to finally join us. Me, the princess, and the boys were just having a little fun while we waited for you." Gold tooth says as he yanks the angel blade from my thigh. Blaze and I scream in pain. My father shoots, but before his bullet meets its mark; Gold tooth lodges the blade into my stomach. I cry out, but no sound escapes my lips. Blaze lets out a blood curling roar. I don't move. I can't. Blood no longer bubbles out of me. Now it's just a trickle. I watch Gold tooth's body hit the floor. Then I close my eyes willing death to take me now. Aiden, apologizes for the pain he is causing me as he rips the knives from my body. I can't a
"Remi, will heal after a few shifts. However, there will be some nasty scars. We did the best we could. But the damage was inflicted by an angel blade. There's just nothing medically we can do about that." The doctor tells someone on the other side of my room door. My father curses under his breath. "There's more Kieran. And either you can tell her. Or I will. I'll let that decision be made by you. But this is something Remington needs to know. It's not something she will want to hear. She may not be worried about it now. But eventually when she finds her fated mate; it will make a difference. This will impact her life greatly.""Just fucking spit it out already." Gunner and my father growl. "Remington, will not be able to have children. Her body wasn't prepared for what happened to it. Between multiple rapes and the angel blade lodged into her lower abdomen; there was some damage to her uterus. There's major scarring. We did the best we could to keep scarring to a minimal amount,
When we pull up to the metal gates of the clubhouse; three big hellhounds come out of the security box. They slowly walk up to Xavier's truck. My heart is pounding. What if they don't want me here? Could I blame them? The answer is no. "Sup, Rampage." The one they call Trojan asks using Xavi's hellhound's name. It also happens to be his road name. "I see you got the package. Open up boys, let them in." Trojan tells the other two. I watch as they push the gates open. Xavier drives down the narrow gravel drive way until it opens up to the paved parking lot of the clubhouse. Cerberus is waiting at the door for us with two other members of the MC. Xavier hops out of his truck and runs around to help me down. The other two members start grabbing my stuff. "What room are we putting this stuff in, Cera?" One of them asks as he picks up two giant flower arrangements. "Rage's room. Where else?" Cerberus shakes her head as she pulls me into her arms."I'm so glad I get to see that beautiful
I'm standing across from Remi waiting for her to make her move. I've got her cornered. Her big violet eyes sparkle in the dim light. I know she's about to make her move. Then she takes with a bout of hiccups and a fit of giggles. Remi crosses one leg over the other. "No...fair...Aiden" She says between hiccups once the giggling stops. "What can I say? I don't play fair little dragon." I tell her as I slowly take a step towars her. Remi squeezes herself closer to the wall if that is possible."I don't know if you noticed. But I'm not the little brat that used to flow you and Gunner around. I'm all grown up now." Remi's hands run over her body and my eyes follow. I groan. Damn, my mate is beautiful. Is what I think, but not what I say to her. "That's debateable. Still seem like a brat to me." Remi huffs and rolls her eyes. All of a sudden, she cloaks herself. All I see is the wall. I wait patiently for her to try to pass me. I keep my hands out at my side. Then I feel it. A change i
My anger boils to the surface. "What the fuck is that assclown doing here?" I growl watching as Remi crawls to the other side of the bed and climbs out. "Better yet how did he know you were here? Nobody except for the MC, your brother, your father, and Blaze know you're here." "I told him." Remi grabs some clothes and heads towards the ensuite. I grab her wrist and spin her around to face me. "Why would you jeopardize your safety like that?" Remi yanks her wrist free from my hold. "I didn't know it was a secret. I called to thank him for all the beautiful flowers. He wanted to make sure I was alive and safe in person." "Kieran doesn't want anyone to know where you are until he is certain the threat to your life is gone. I'm your fated. How could you possibly think bringing another male around me would be okay? It's not just any male friend. But your fucking lover!" I rage. I can't stop myself from throwing one of the many flower arrangements that has taken over my space against t
As soon as I step out of the Hellhoundz MC gates; Chance pulls me into a hug. No sooner am I in his arms, I'm yanked out. "Mine!" Aiden growls menacingly. He shoves Chance so hard he flies onto the hood of his car. Chance, calmly and cooly climbs off the hood of his car."Relax. I know she's your fated. Jeeze! Look what you did to my freaking car. You're paying for that, amigo. My father's gonna shit when he sees it." Chance looks at his car hood shaking his head."You knew, yet you put your filthy hands and lips on her at the ball. And touched her again today.""At the ball I was trying to see how long before you pulled your head out of your ass and claimed her. I see it took almost losing her. Pity, because I would've claimed her the second I scented her."Rage growls. When he steps closer to Chance I put myself between the two. It has never been a secret that my mother and Chance's parents were trying to arrange a match between the two of us. It also wasn't a secret Chance felt m
"Speak of the Devil and he shall appear, no?" My grandfather Lucifer says as I stare into his silver eyes. I nod my head slowly. "I didn't bring you back for you to fear others. I didn't bring you back to cower at their feet. You are more than they will ever be." My grandfather's arrogance is as strong as I've heard. "I don't want to be here. I don't want to add to their pain.""Yet you were brought back to be their vengenace. You were brought back to inflict pain on those that deserve it.""But I have done none of that. All I have brought is pain and destruction." My grandfather lifts my chin once again making me look him in the eye. "You are young. You still have time. You have strayed from the path I set for you. It's time for you to get back on the right path." I didn't share his belief. I was nothing more than a scarred little girl. I heard all the tales of my grandfather. I knew he was heartless and ruthless. I knew he would do anything to win. "Aiden, take your fated back
