ISABELLE'S POV— 77

"What do you know about Henrietta?" I ask, and the book he ought to pick slips from his hands.

The room is silent, and our eyes are locked in each other. There's a very long pause, and I know I have nothing to say, but I'm sure he does, seeing how silent he is.

I clear my throat, breaking the awkward silence since he won't.

"It's fine. If you don't want to tell me a thing, I understand," I say. "Let's forget this ever happened..." I gather the papers on the desk, arranging it. "I think that's enough for tonight, I'd continue the rest in my chambers,"

"Your Majesty," Kesem calls, and I continue, making sure to not take a glance at him.

"It's fine. Please take this to my chambers," the chair drags, and I get up, adjusting my hair before my dress.

"Yes, Your Majesty," he says and picks the papers from the table.

I watch him make his way out of the study. If he wanted to tell him he should have had earlier, I gave him quite some time to think, and he blew it. He isn't expecting me to beg
