Chapter twenty-six [ The conspiracy] Rudolf's failures against his weakest points cause extreme suffering and agony. He fasts day and night until he loses weight and becomes ill. Chapter Twenty-nine[ The Tourists] The climate in San Diego is completely different and in contrast to the weather in the Philippines. The mother and children require more wrappings like onions on that first night. Rudolf has peace with his family even though there are upcoming problems that have yet to be resolved about the mountain people who rarely attack the villagers. Rhoda has to prepare their supper, and Aunt Chels is unable to manage the house properly due to her old age and the trauma she received from the disasters.
