Chapter 41
The clock struck five in the morning and the early bird Adhyayan woke up. A smile crept on his face as the events of previous night flashed in front of his eyes. Taking a deep breath, he rubbed his eyes groggily as he got up from the bed and walked towards the balcony stretching his arms. He was greeted by the mesmerizing view of the rising sun amidst the mountains at the horizon. He wanted to relish the picturesque of dawn with his girlfriend, his lifelong partner, the bubbly girl and fantabulous journalist, Anvesha Chatterjee who was like a drizzling rain in his monotonous, arid life.
Smiling like a fool, he remembered the way Anvesha shut him up the previous night. He remembered after making promises to stay together forever and ever, he left her room around midnight. After enjoying the delicious breakfast amidst the calm and lazy air of Lansdowne, the couple planned their sight-seeing activities. Having lived in the town, Adhyayan became the tour guide for his girlfriend as they headed towards their first destination, one of the oldest churches of the city.Adhyayan drove towards St. Mary Church. The serene journey with a narrow mountainous road encapsulated with Oak and Pine trees was truly mesmerizing. Adhyayan said, “You know this protestant church was built in 1890s by Colonel Hume of the Royal Engineers”, as he turned towards right entering the marketplace of the unspoiled town. He continued, “It was turned into a museum after independence by Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre”. was seven in the evening. Anvesha was sitting in her apartment after a tiring journey. The trip with Adhyayan to Lansdowne, the unspoiled town was truly amazing. The couple indeed, enjoyed themselves and made beautiful memories together. Looking at her phone and swiping the pictures, she smiled glancing at a candid shot of her with her doting boyfriend at Tip N Top. She forwarded the picture to her mother who was delighted at the progress of their relationship. Adhyayan and Anvesha had reached Delhi in the afternoon. Hruday sighed as he hailed the cab and asked the driver to drive towards Love=Food. It was one thirty in the afternoon and he was dead tired. After a tiring journey from Darjeeling to New Delhi and a business meeting with two of his corporate associates, the young businessman was truly tired. All he wanted was to go back to Anvesha’s place and sleep. However, when his sister had asked him to attend a lunch and meet her boyfriend because she had to conduct the live debate at night and hence, dinner was not feasible, Hruday could not deny. He was shocked as he wondered what went wrong. As far as he remembered, he had proposed his lovely girlfriend to get married while never in his dreams could he think of the incomprehensible response from Anvesha’s side.Anvesha could sense her dreams shattering in a second with the word ‘marriage’. Sitting inside the cab with her brother, she instructed the driver to drop her at the Film City, Noida first and then drop her brother at her housing society.She wondered she was just twenty five and not ready to get married when an inner voice mocked her, “You will be soon turning twenty six next week”.“But I am still a kid. It was ten at night when Anvesha came back home. Her weekdays were really hectic since the day she was conducting the live debate at prime time, from eight to nine at night. After getting the promotion, Anvesha indeed, had the huge set of responsibilities on her shoulders.Her colleagues and her seniors had appreciated about her code of conduct and staunch professionalism along with unbiased opinions, as she was able to maintain decorum in the live political debates without insulting any expert. She was really happy as her show was getting desirable response and the viewership of her channel was shooting up at the prime time.Feeling tired yet contended, she reached her studio apartment and knocked. She felt home after so many years as she realized there was someone who was waiting for her, after all, her elder brother had not even eaten the dinner yet.
