Well, surprise, surprise.

I was beginning to see why Xavier had plucked this one from her litter. It was not like a slave to speak to a master in such a way, and yet she’d done so without flinching. This one…she was different. She brought forth the unexpected, and I couldn’t help but feel rather intrigued by the stubborn nature of her, beneath all that quiet meekness.

Stay to find out? She must’ve gathered every ounce of her courage to ask me such a thing. Of course, she managed to stay calm, but it did little to hide the nerves radiating behind her eyes. She had been frayed by the sight of this false Chosen One, and I had to wonder why.

I narrowed my gaze on her, catching the reflexive quiver of her chin. Her lip twitching. Sweat had begun to bead on her brow, and I could tell her heart was beating like a drum, because her blood smelled more potent than ever. It was sickeningly sweet.

If our little bird wasn’t careful, she was going to attract the entire room.
