Chapter 48

Simone’s POV

I’m not sure I want to hear about my destiny. “I don’t think it’s ever a good idea to know your own future. Nothing good can come of it.”

“Your future?” Darrick asks. “No, no, no, dear child, not your future. This is your present and your reality. It's already happening.”

I glance at Aldric who hasn’t moved at all. His arms are folded across his chest, and he’s staring straight ahead past me and Darrick at the clouds rolling in over the mountains. “If you don’t want to hear it, you should probably leave,” he says, “but I think I need to know.”

Darrick nods. It’s clear that he is taking no enjoyment from any of his revelations. “Fine,” I sigh and perch on the edge of the chair. “Go ahead.”

"It's a little complicated."

"That's okay," I say. "I'm pretty clever. Why don't you give it a bash, and if I have questions, I'll ask."

She nodded and pretended to take a sip of wine from the glass in front of her.
