CHAPTER TEN

RIVER

I didn't say a word at first. I only kept staring at her, and she wouldn't stop asking me the same question over and over again. I knew I needed to give her an answer. Anything at all that would make her stop pestering me, or at least not tell her the truth. I didn't want her to know, and I wouldn't tell her. I racked my brain as she looked up at me inquisitiveness all over her eyes. I knew she was getting suspicious already.

"Look, Elara..."

A knock on the door interrupted me before I could even finish the word I began to speak. I turned to the door, and at that point, I felt like smiling, but I had to lock it in.

"Excuse me," I said to Elara, hoping that she wouldn't begin to bug me again. She simply nodded. I was grateful that she didn't bother me anymore. I walked to the door and opened it. I was grateful that the knock came. I hadn't finalized the lies to tell Elara yet. It was only a saviour, and I was grateful that it came.
