Author's POV

Declan tapped his foot on the ground nervously, his palms were sweaty. He couldn't imagine his whole life going up in flames just because he listened to everything he was told by his mother. Everything came back to haunt him and not her.

“Can you stop doing that, Declan?” Elizabeth scoffed in irritation.

“You are not in my shoes mum, you can't tell me what and what not to do in this situation. Please.” Declan retorted.

“What do you mean by that? Haven't I been here all this while, trying to help sort things out?” She defended.

He snorts, “it would have been much better if you were the one in my shoes. It would have been easier to deal with. Can't believe this.” Declan hit hard at the table in front of him.

Elizabeth could feel his pain. The only thing is she didn't feel guilty one bit. Knowing how cowardly, Declan is. She couldn't risk having her name being put out for being involved in fraudulent activities as regards her late husband's company.
