“Lady Hima, I heard of what happened.” She said to me.
I nodded and sat down on the chair in front of her. I explained to her what happened this morning and what the captured woman told me when I went to the jail cell to interrogate her.
The Empress listened intently to my testimony and she would also ask questions to verify my story. This is one of the things I admired about Empress Yukina.
Even if you were a commoner or a noble, she would always remain neutral while talking to all the people involved.
This made me even more comfortable telling her what had transpired.
“I see… Then I shall have a talk with the perpetrator as well to hear what she has to say.” Empress Yukina answered. I nodded and told her that it was fine with me. I really had nothing to hide since I didn’t do anything wrong. The Empress also asked me about the progress of the cure. I sighed and admitted that what happened this morning seriously took my plan a step away from me. It caused a minor hiccup that could’ve turned into something big if I didn't catch that woman. The stress from what happened caused me to have a minor mental breakdown. I can't believed I cried so much this morning. Now that I think about it, I kinda feel embrassed letting Prince Shiro see me like that.
“Tomorrow morning, I will finally be able to administer the antibiotics and the citizens will start to feel better almost immediately.” I told the Empress. She smiled at me and told me to do my best. She thanked me again but I told her it wasn’t necessary. I loved what I was doing and it gave me the feeling I used to have when I was a doctor back on earth. Although the situations I used to handle were different, the main thing is that I save lives. After experiencing so much from when I first arrived here, I feel like I've finally become one with this world. Even though I originally didn't belong here, now I finally found my place.
“I shall take my leave now, Lady Hima. I look forward to your success.” Empress Yukina said to me as she had a smile on her face. I lowered my head at her as soon as she walked away from me. She also promised me that she would do anything to investigate the background of the woman who was captured. She wanted to do her utmost to catch these types of people and to finally catch the mastermind to all of this mess. As soon as the Empress was gone, I went back to the lab. Prince Shiro was still there and I could see that he would occasionally look inside to check if someone had possibly entered through a different opening.
“Thank you for your hard work.” I told him as soon as I was in front of the tent. Prince Shiro looked at me and smiled. He opened the door for me to enter and I thanked him for that. I immediately went back to my work to finish all of the antibiotics. This was going to take me a while but it’s definitely worth it. I promised the Empress that I’d create the cure by tomorrow morning. I just hope that I will be able to do this without any further delay. It took me almost a few hours more to finish all 10 vials but it was all worth it. Because of what happened this morning, I decided to camp out here in the lab so that no one will be able to enter without my permission. I'll have to prepare everything for tomorrow as well so staying here would be the best option.
The following morning, I felt relieved that there were no more delays. I collected all of the vials of antibiotics and I made my way to the isolation area where the patients were. As soon as I got there, the doctors were relieved to see me. They noticed that I was carrying a basket filled with vials and their faces started lighting up. “Is that the cure, my lady?” One of them came up to me, her eyes were so hopeful. I know these people have worked really hard for the past week and once I inject the patients with this, it’ll become easier and soon all of the infected will finally recover and the threat of the plague will be no more. I nodded and told everyone what they should do. Since every person that was infected had an IV, all I have to do is inject the antibiotics directly into that line. I’ll first d
“Everybody, please listen closely. I will demonstrate how to administer the medicine. After every patient has been injected with it, you’ll have to repeat it at least 3 more times for today. Does everybody understand?” I looked over the doctors that were in the isolation area. They all nodded and paid attention to everything I was doing. I showed them how much antibiotics should be injected per person. With the children, it was a bit different so I had to specifically give them proper instructions. The amount of medicine needs to be based on the children’s weight so they have to weigh them before giving the medicine. As soon as I finished demonstrating, all the doctors grabbed a vial and a syringe and they made their way to the other patients. “If the patien
“Excuse me, my lady. Prince Shiro is looking for you.” One of the guards stood by the entrance and called for me. I excused myself and I followed him outside of the isolation area. We made sure to disinfect ourselves before exiting the area, even though the antibiotics are available now, we still can’t risk infecting other people. I followed the guard back to the lab where I saw Prince Shiro was waiting for me. There was another guard next to him and they were talking when I approached them. “Is everything okay?” I asked Prince Shiro. He nodded but the look on his face was far from okay. He looked like he was upset but at the same time anxious. I looked at the guard he was talking to and he looked anxious as well. Something must’ve happened. “I called you because we’ve interrogated the woman who tampered with the medicine. She finally confessed ho
“She’s dead, isn’t she?” I asked. Prince Shiro looked at the guard and they both nodded. I sighed. Whoever is behind that sabotage clearly didn’t want to get caught. It was a shame though, they didn’t have to kill the suspect. That made them even more obvious. Prince Shiro and I need to go back to Nanto and finish this once and for all. Empress Yukina has been really good to me and I would hate to drag them in the mess of our Empire. Once I see that the patients’ conditions have been stabilized, then I’ll ask permission from the Empress to go back. “Can you please leave us for now?” I asked the guards. They nodded and bowed before they left. I invited Prince Shiro inside the lab so that I could talk to him about the suspect. There were chairs available in the lab so we sat down and I held his hand. “What’s the situation back in Nanto?” I asked. Pr
