Gretchen

The first night we spent with Speed was pretty uneventful. She slept most of the time and barely moved. We just had to monitor her temperature and force-feed fluids into her. We slept in shifts never leaving Speed’s side. Ratchet came in throughout the night bringing us food and getting updates. That kid has been a godsend. Even though I hadn’t done much by the time the sun came up the next day I was exhausted and I knew Brick was feeling it too. I was in need of a shower and a change of clothes but I didn’t want to leave. Brick had just walked in handing me a cup of coffee. “ Brick, you are my hero. I could kiss you.” I say after taking a gulp. I didn’t care if it scalded my throat as it went down. “ I’m going to go to the clubhouse to get some clothes for a few days.
