Chapter 2 - Last Wish System

[The conditions have been fulfilled. The Last Wish System is now unlocked.]

[Last Wish System is launching. Please wait.]

At that moment, a progress bar appeared in Golden's mind. After two minutes, it was complete.

[Last Wish System launch has finished successfully. Golden Penny has been registered as the system's user. You can start using the Last Wish System.]

Golden was excited, but before he could do anything, the system spoke again.

[Do you want to start the Last Wish System's tutorial?]

Golden still didn't know what functions exactly the Last Wish System had, so he said in a loud voice.

However, the system didn't react, and he tried again.

"I want to start the tutorial!"

The system remained unchanged. Golden stopped speaking as he noticed that it was already very dark, and no one else was in the library. He was lucky because if someone were there, he would be scolded, and more importantly, the system's existence could have been revealed to others, or at least they could have thought that there was something weird in Golden's head.

He was sure that the Last Wish System was very precious, enough to awaken the greed of others, something that required so much knowledge to unlock it there was no way that was an ordinary thing. He firmly believed that if the Last Wish System's existence were made public, he would have a rough time.

He swore in his mind that he wouldn't make a mistake like that again, the Last Wish System needed to remain as his most valuable secret. Golden needed to ensure ways to hide it from others, or he would suffer.

[The user doesn't need to worry; no one can detect the existence of the Last Wish System if the user doesn't reveal it.]

Golden was surprised because the system had reacted to his thoughts. Then, he tried to say in his mind the same words he had shouted before.

After realizing it worked, Golden let out a sigh of relief. At that moment, he understood that he only needed to think to use the system. He had been too excited before and didn't think before shouting.

Golden stopped pondering and paid attention to the Last Wish System's tutorial.

[The Last Wish System has two main functions, the Database Search and the Quest Menu. The Database Search lets the user search any information stored in the Database; the system has already scanned your body and soul, all the information is synchronized to the Last Wish System's Database, all the knowledge that was required to unlock the Last Wish System is also available to consult at any time.]

Golden was delighted hearing that. Even though he had a very good memory, he couldn't remember everything he read or saw in the past. Although he could retain the general information of most things, he couldn't remember all the details, but with that function, he could obtain all the information he needed at any time.

However, what caught his attention was the scanning of the body and soul. Golden was thinking about what kind of information the system could get from that scan when the system spoke again, stopping Golden's thoughts.

[As the user is interested in that, the most relevant information extracted from the body and the soul will now be resumed in two new auxiliary functions. The Stats Menu and the Innate Talent Menu.]

While the system was talking, Golden was surprised because he was curious about that topic, and then the system generated two new functions. Originally, the system only had two functions, but after adding those two new functions, the number had doubled.

He wasn't sure about the Stats Menu, but the Innate Talent Menu was something that anyone would want, just due to having the words Innate Talent, it would get anyone's attention. Innate Talents were something one was born with, and acquiring more was considered impossible, although it was possible to upgrade an existing talent, the difficulty would become enormous as one grew up.

The tradition was to test the Innate Talent of the children only on their tenth birthday when they would lose the world's protection and became able to begin training, testing it before could make the results inaccurate due to how the testing method worked. Innate Talents were difficult to measure.

Golden suspected that the Innate Talent Menu would be able to show his Innate Talents at any moment. Innate Talents could be in both the body and the soul, Golden believed that the Last Wish System should have the necessary data since it had already scanned his body and soul.

He had read that some people become able to sense their Innate Talents because sensing one's own Innate Talents was always easier than sensing the Innate Talents of others, but only true geniuses or truly lucky ones could do it.

If Golden were able to know about his Innate Talents at that moment, his possibilities of improving would be much higher than others because he only was six years old. Those four years of difference were very important.

He was still lost in his thoughts when the system continued.

[The Stats Menu can show the user data in numeric value to make them simple to understand.]

Then the Stats Menu appeared in his mind.

[Name: Golden Penny| Age: 6 (World's law protection)| Body Level: 0| Mind Level: 0]

[Vitality: 3| Strength: 1| Agility: 1| Intelligence: 10| Wisdom: 10| Dexterity: 7]

After seeing that, Golden thought about the limits of stat points, and the system replied that one point was the minimum value for the stats, which caused Golden to have a strange expression on his face while muttering.

"What the... I know I don't exercise a lot, but to have only one point of Strength and Agility..."

In truth, it wasn't weird for Golden to have only a single point in Strength unless he had been born with some innately powerful body. That evaluation was normal at his age and lifestyle, but having the weakest strength isn't something that Golden liked.

His vitality was rather average for his age, but having seven points in dexterity was a lot. As for intelligence and wisdom, they were at the maximum value possible, at least the maximum value without training his mind.

At level zero, there wasn't any stat that could surpass ten points. That was the absolute limit. To exceed it, the level should be two, in other words, one needed to become a 2-star mortal erudite.

There were two main Paths to get strong in Golden's world, the first was by practicing Inner Qi and becoming a Warrior, the other was training the mind and becoming a Magus. There were some other variations, but most of them were lost since ancient times or abandoned due to their inefficiency in front of the two main Paths.

The system only showed information about the two main Paths, the levels of both Paths were independent, and they had different restrictions. Increasing the level of the body as a warrior would allow the increase of vitality, strength, and agility. On the other hand, increasing the level of the mind as a Magus would allow the increase of intelligence, wisdom, and dexterity.

In the system, being level zero in both was what was known simply as a mortal, in other words, normal people, at the moment one started to practice one of the Paths one would automatically become level one, which was equivalent to a 1-star mortal fighter or a 1-star mortal erudite. That wouldn't change the stat limits but indicated that one had at least the talent to surpass ordinary people, a first step towards becoming an expert.

Of course, it was possible to train in both, a lot of people tried to do it, but in the end, almost all in Golden's city chose to focus only in one Path because one needed reaching Rank 1 Novice Warrior or Novice Magus before the age of sixteen. After one turned sixteen, it would be impossible to surpass the 9-star Mortal Rank. Thus, in the end, focusing on one Path led to having a better chance of reaching Rank 1 in at least that Path.

Practicing Inner Qi or magic could only be started after one became ten years old and lost the world's protection, no one could succeed before, and one could even harm his own body by trying it.

Due to his age, Golden was still a mortal and based on his stats, he was obviously talented to become a magus, but he had a very difficult path if he wanted to become a warrior. But that wasn't that important, Golden still had almost four years to train before he could start practicing any Path, so improving his Stats would be very good preparation. Moreover, since his intelligence and wisdom were already at his limits, he should focus on his other Stats.

Thus, the most important to Golden wasn't his stats, but his Magic Latent Talent.

One could still practice Inner Qi as long as one trained hard enough, even without any related Innate Talents, but it was different with magic. Magic required having at least a related Innate Talent. If one didn't have at least the lowest grade of Magic Latent Talent, it didn't matter if one had the maximum Stats in intelligence and wisdom, there was no way to become a Magus.

The system finally finished explaining everything about the stats to Golden, and then it changed to the Innate Talent Menu. Golden was extremely nervous while it appeared in his mind.
