Alana’s POV

I stayed in bed for a few more minutes, hoping that Kai would come back soon and tell me that everything was fine, that the intruder was just a random rogue who posed no threat, and not Alex as I had thought.

But the more I waited, the more seconds stretched into minutes, and soon, a whole hour had passed. I grew more restless and impatient. I couldn’t just lie here and do nothing. I had to find out what was happening out there and not just sit here and wait.

I had to see if Alex was really here or if I was just letting my imagination ruin this moment for me. I threw off the covers and got out of bed, ignoring the pain in my leg. I limped towards the door, hoping that no one would stop me and that I could easily slip by without being noticed.

But as soon as I opened the door and stepped into the hallway, I was met by a guard who blocked my way, stopping me in my next hasty step before I could move out of the door completely.

“Where do you think you’re going?” He asked me,
