Rachel POV
Alpha Council Chambers
"I have proof Rachel Flores can't provide proof of her claims. Is that sufficient?"
What was Tyler talking about? How could he have proof to prove I didn't have proof? The claim itself was ridiculous! The Council had to see he was trying to sabotage her petition using a ludicrous claim because he had no legitimate protest to make.
Tyler continued, "I have here a letter provided on House Campbell letterhead with the Alpha seal from Richard Campbell stating he has never met Rachel Flores. He has no knowledge of her existence. He further states his wife only had one child, a daughter named Linda, before she died in a car accident two months before Rachel Flores was born."
How had he gotten in touch with Richard Campbell?
Jack had been trying to get in touch with House Campbell on my behalf since we had found Richard Campbell's name on my birth record. I had gotte
Tyler POVGiovanni's PizzeriaEvery bite tasted better than the last.Garlic and tomatoes and parmigiano-reggiano. Crispy basil added a unique taste only available at Giovanni's and I almost growled as Adam picked the basil leaves off the pizza. We were the only two people in the building other than the Marino family who owned and operated the pizzeria."Don't growl at me. I told you to ask for extra basil. You know I like the basil the best.""I'm trying to eat my feelings here. You think you deserve the all the basil when I'm the one who just had to stand before the Alpha Council and listen while another Alpha tried to claim my mate?"Adam snorted, deliberately crunching a piece of basil between his sharp white teeth so I could see.I wanted to snap at him. I needed desperately to be angry.Anger was something I could understand. There was fire in anger. I could use the fire to fuel
Rachel POVBella & Rachel's ApartmentLuck would have it I was still awake when the pounding on the door came."I'll get it!"Jack and Bella were curled up in one corner of the couch while I had been lounging in the other, acutely aware of my solitary state.I'd taken to holding my hand over the bulge of my belly. There were sometimes flutters inside me now. Some books said I should feel more by now while others echoed only the feelings I already noted myself.Werewolf pregnancies were meant to be faster developing than those of a standard human though we carried our young the same length of time.My child was a boy or a girl by now. A human would have had to wait longer, I think, but I had chosen to wait to learn my baby's gender only out of a selfish desire to protect myself from the knowledge.I threw the door open without concern for who might be on the other side."Rachel."
Rachel POV1 Week LaterSt. Mary's Hospital"Are you ready to find out who we're expecting, Mama?"The nurse was cheerful to the extreme which only made me feel more alone. Bella had been called into work and I felt far too awkward to ask Jack to escort me to my ultrasound appointment.Tyler and I had been texting back and forth for days, but I didn't want to do anything to upset the fragile peace we had found together.Work was important to Tyler. He didn't need to miss any meetings or whatever else he had filling his schedule in order to hold my hand during a routine procedure. I knew there was absolutely nothing to worry about since my previous scans had all been fine."Okay! Tell me! Am I going to be meeting a son or a daughter?"I wasn't sure I was ready to know, but I needed to know. The information would come in handy when I went before the Alpha Council again. I also knew it truly mattered
Rachel POVMoonrise Entertainment - Tyler's Office (Executive Level)"Alpha has a clear schedule today," Lonnah prompted, a look of compassion on her face I didn't want to examine too closely."Ask him if he has time for me to come in. Please."I knew I was putting myself into a potentially miserable situation, but I found I couldn't leave pictures of my growing daughter behind as if I were ashamed. She was only a tiny blip on the scan and I already loved her more than my own life. I desperately wanted Tyler to be pleased to learn he was having a daughter.Lonnah tapped her Bluetooth headset with a manicured finger, quickly paging Tyler and explaining I was present right outside his door. I couldn't hear his replies to her. She reached down to buzz me in though so Tyler must have agreed to see me.Quickly agreed, too.How many times I had been rejected at this door? I couldn't remember all the days I had
Rachel POVMoonrise Entertainment - Media Conference RoomA frisson of excitement went through me as Tyler said we were going to look at our daughter.I loved hearing him say 'our daughter' so much more than I had ever imagined I would."Let's see her!"Bella and I had shared my ultrasounds in the past so it wasn't the first time I had watched my baby with a partner. All the same I felt much more excited to see Tyler's reaction. I decided it was because I knew we were looking at our child together and I wanted her father to love her, be excited to see her, be proud of her growing strong inside me.We stood before a large cabinet where Tyler fiddled with the doors until one opened. I could tell he didn't do this on his own very often -a part of me wondered if Tyler had ever set up his own presentation before- but he managed to get the disk tray out to accept the DVD.I looked around for
Tyler POVTe Amo Ristorante"Is water fine with you?"Rachel preferred white wine to red; I had never figured out if her preference was because she genuinely favored the taste of white or she wanted to spite me as red was my favorite. Since she was pregnant, I couldn't rely on a glass of wine to distract us before our meal arrived."Yes, water is great. Sparkling? Do you have sparkling?"I wasn't sure where the hesitance was coming from with her, but she spoke with a quiet murmur I found I couldn't stop craving. If I had been dealing with Wynd, I would have blamed my wolf for the need to assert my dominance. Alpha tendencies could cause aggressive behavior at any time. I often felt the need to dominate others even if no one was challenging me.Wynd slept completely silent inside me though so all my cravings were my own for the first time since before I shifted.I waited on the waiter to return wit
Rachel POVBella & Rachel's Apartment - Rachel's BedroomBella was a wizard when it came to organizing the pantry or the refrigerator. She was able to find a place for all the leftovers I had brought home even though it was enough food for a week. I was grateful for her because if it had been left up to me, I'm sure I would have simply thrown everything away only to hate myself later for the waste.I hadn't been able to look at Tyler on the ride home though he had done his best to get my attention, cheer me up, gain a reaction of any kind from me since I was frozen inside.I couldn't respond though because I'd inadvertently reminded myself of all the things wrong with us.Why had I made a joke about wrinkles?Neither of us were old enough to worry about age lines. We were healthy and we would benefit from our werewolf birthright whether we could shift again or not. I had only wanted to joke around with him,
Rachel POVBlue Diamond - Kitchen"Rachel? Rachel!"I had no idea how long Bella had been trying to get my attention. I was perched on a counter in the kitchen of Blue Diamond while Bella made the specialty dessert of the night. The delicate tarts were more of a pain in the ass than they seemed to be worth in my estimation."What? I'm sorry. I was caught up in my head.""You were thinking about Tyler," Bella snorted, "You're going back to him because he bought you pasta? I can cook pasta."Jack laughed loudly before flicking flour into Bella's face. He and I were visiting while we went over our plans to get me a visit to House Campbell territory. I would have felt bad about being in her way while she was working except Bella clearly enjoyed the company."She says that as if you're terrible for thinking about your mate. How often do you think about me? No, really, tell me. I need the ego boost.""Y
