Rachel POV
Bella & Rachel's Apartment
I checked through the window to make sure it was Nathan before opening the door. He looked as good as ever, better even in his jeans and blue Henley which brought out the color of his eyes. I found myself blushing as I ushered him in.
"Come in, come in! I've changed the sheets on the bed for you. I'll be bunking with Bella tonight so you get to take my room."
I went to the hall closet where I put the towels away. I kept up a steady stream of chatter to try to calm the flush in my face. Nathan would have no way of knowing what I'd been talking about with Bella only a minute before, but I was still embarrassed at even the thought of his finding out.
"Here's the towels if you want a shower tonight. I didn't move your suitcase. It's still by the table in the entryway. Do you want anything? A drink or something to eat?"
"I want you to breathe," Nathan offered, giving me a low chuckle as he touched my shou
Rachel POVBella & Rachel's ApartmentTime seemed to have rolled back for all three of us as the evening wore on into the night. We watched a movie we had loved as teens and laughed at all the same jokes as if we hadn't heard them before a hundred times. We shared popcorn while complaining about how it was never as good at home as it was at the theater. We said our goodnights with hugs all around before parting ways in the living room, Nathan to my room with Bella and I going to hers."Tonight was fun. Do you think we could do this again after you get back from the boonies?"I tossed odd-shaped and sized throw pillows onto the hope chest at the foot of the bed. Bella turned the bed down while I finished clearing space for us to lie down. It felt almost as if we were acting out a scene from one of the movies we'd watched when we were young."I think we could. I do think you need to reconsider all these pillows. Didn't we mak
Rachel POVOn the RoadBella made breakfast sandwiches for the road. She made enough for me, Nathan, and even Art. I wasn't sure what to expect for a trip with two Alphas though I was certainly grateful for the food to keep everyone busy in the beginning of the trip.We got off to a rocky start since Art insisted Nathan drive and I sit in the backseat. He pointed out it was safer for me to be in the back which settled Nate down. I was still surprised he had refused to drive. Who knew an Alpha Inspector would admit to not being able to do anything at all better than everyone else? Art was a strange one.Interstate traffic dropped off dramatically as we left the city. I lost track of time as the car sped up from a crawl to a steady cruising speed. I was happy to find out I had no motion sickness on the road. I hadn't been sure how pregnancy would affect me on a long trip."We have to stop for fuel in another few exits. Do you want anything when we ge
Art POV Interstate Rest Stop We had covered a third of the distance to Moonglow Pack territory when we reached the most isolated rest stop I had been able to scout out on our route. "Stop at this rest area. Pull into a parking space. Don't get out." I knew the men following us worked for John Wright. I wasn't sure what their purpose was other than to annoy me and give me a grating headache as I tried to track them while also keeping up with our itinerary into enemy territory. They didn't appear to be much of a threat, but I was all too aware appearances could be deceiving. After all, it hadn't been a bulky Alpha who had cursed me and brought me low. I'd landed in my current circumstances courtesy of a tiny woman. Magic came in all shapes and sizes. Who knew what the pair behind us were capable of in a match? Plenty of animals fought back the most fiercely when they were cornered which was exactly what I was doing with them.
Nathan POVOn the Road"Cursed? You're cursed?"I had no idea what Art was talking about where telekinesis was concerned. I knew I'd never heard of wolves who could move things with their minds the way characters did in comic books. I also knew magic was something people might mention in passing, but no one really did it."Can we get a little more explanation on that, please?"Art snorted again -I was really starting to hate that sound- and shook his head, "No. Not a chance. Can't you crazy kids just keep yourselves busy for the rest of the trip? Daddy needs to take a nap."Faint lines of tension accentuated his eyes and mouth in a way I'd not seen before. I had a feeling he really did need a little bit to rest even if I had no idea how he'd mentally muscled those goons around in the parking lot."Sure, Dad. Can we play Twenty Questions?""How about the Quiet Game? Daddy has a headache."Rachel suddenly
