Sydney's POV
"Where the hell have you been?" Jeffrey yelled when I came into view."I'm so so sorry. I couldn't get a cab so I had to get here-""I don't want to hear it, Sydney," he fumed."Let me just get to work on that dining table now. I'm very sorry," I apologized again. He snapped his fingers. "No, someone's already working on that." He took a tray containing a cup and bottle of champagne and handed it to me. "Serve the man this. He's in room 206. Since Cheryl is also running late, you'll be his personal server today instead of her."Noting everything important, I went in the direction of the room. But still heard him mutter, "What is wrong with these women?"I so wanted to break all the glass in this tray on his head. Unfortunately, I was too far already and it would be suspicious that I heard him from that distance. The city where the Moon Rise pack settled was also heavily populated with humans. If it weren't that way, the humans would get nosey. One of the many things I hated about this job apart from the low pay was Jeffrey. I used to think my aunt was a stuck-up bitch till I met this guy. If only I could find a better job and leave this place."You're a very fast waitress, Sydney. Good job," Jeffrey once said. "But no raises for you."I comforted myself with thoughts of killing him one day. Hopefully, I would live to do that. As I needed the room of the VIP guest, I changed my thoughts to positive ones. I didn't want to be angry when I met him or it would affect my service."Room service!" I said after knocking with my toes. Once I got the go-ahead to enter, I opened the door with my elbow and went in.The scent of fresh rain hit me as I closed the door. Rain was relaxing to me and I particularly loved the scent of it. My coworkers thought I was nuts whenever I showed up to work drenched in the rainy season. The most magnificent emerald green eyes roamed my face as I stared at his physique. For the first time in six years, I was attracted to a man. I wondered how that beautiful pale skin would feel. I was staring at a male version of Snow White. His muscles almost looked edible as I studied him till I got to the towel. Oh my goodness, he was fresh out the shower! I averted my eyes quickly before I could register his V-line."You can serve the alcohol now," he said, pointing at the table in the middle of the suite."Sure," I muttered. After pouring his champagne into the glass, I said, "You can call on me whenever you need something. For now, I'll let you get dressed." It took all I could not to ogle at him again."Oh, I'll need you to stay," he replied as if it was previously agreed. The smoothness of his voice washed over me but I raised an eyebrow. Still, I stood at the door, leaning on it.'Mate!' my wolf screamed.'You have got to be kidding me. This guy is way out of my league please.'By the time I blinked, he was inches away from me. 'Did my legs move without my knowledge or did he walk over to me?'Two heartbeats pounded in my ears, almost driving me mad. I was consumed by his gaze. When he arched his back, I stepped back last minute but he caught me by the waist. Parting his lips, he took mine.Suddenly, the pounding hearts were like a sweet melody to my ears. I enjoyed the taste of his cherry-flavored mouth as my hands traveled up his chest. I was becoming lightheaded when he stopped suddenly."Mate," his beautiful mouth whispered."Mate," I whispered back, smiling no doubt stupidly.Taking me with him to the bed, he sat me down on his lap. "What's your name?"I battled within myself before saying, "Sydney Leonard.""Alexander Grayson."I felt like a specimen in a petri dish as he studied me. But it was more of a warm gaze like he had been waiting for me his whole life.Almost an hour later, I got to know that he was the Alpha of a neighboring pack who came to officially sign a deal to be allied with the Moon Rise pack. He was very funny and I almost laughed myself to embarrassment while we talked. Alexander carried me the whole time while I subtly touched his alluring skin to get the feel of it. I just hoped I wasn't giving off the vibes of a creep."Shouldn't you get ready for your meeting? You shouldn't be late," I said worriedly. He raised an eyebrow. "I want to know you better. They can wait a bit."My stomach flipped and I hung my head to hide what I was sure was an obvious tinge of red on my cheeks. My face was burning at this point. "Yeah. But you shouldn't keep them waiting, plus I have to work a bit. And you can't come all the way here and leave without achieving anything."My words fell on dead ears because he just grinned some more and drew me closer as if we weren't close enough already. "But I found you. That's more than an achievement."I cleared my suddenly dry throat. One thing I discovered in such a short period was that Alexander was a big flirt. He did it so smoothly, I almost orgasmed. As I waited for him to dress, I smiled to myself. Maybe there's a light to this life of mine. It felt like I had known him forever. The way he held me seemed so familiar. If only he could get to know me in other places too.My hands flew to my mouth when he stepped out of the bathroom. He was in a navy blue suit that fit him so well he looked like a sex god. "Wow," was all I could say. Whatever cologne he had on smelled like whiskey. I loved whiskey."Up," came his deep voice with his hand outstretched.I finally concentrated enough to realize he wanted us to walk out together. "No, we can't," I protested, disengaging myself from him. "I should figure this out better first. And don't forget about the humans."He nodded. His head dipped and he sucked my lips in, kissing me passionately before he opened the door and stepped out while I followed with the tray in hand.As his designated waitress, I served him mostly at the table and he made me stay close in case he needed anything but those were just opportunities to graze my skin with his fingers. Cheryl almost killed me with her stares. The moment I had a break, she asked, "Why are you so interested in him? You should know better than this, Sydney. And before you deny it, I caught you trying to catch his eye."This woman had been against me since my first day here and I really wasn't having it. Today, she'd crossed a line. "We both know you're the only one here who's trying to catch his eye. Leave me out of your rubbish, Cheryl. I'm not the reason he's failed to notice you."She opened her mouth to speak but Jeff came. "You!" he pointed at me. "Mr. Grayson is ready to leave the dining hall and he's looking for you. Why did you leave your duty post in the first place?" Knowing Jeffrey, I didn't wait for him to continue yelling. Poor Cheryl.Alexander was indeed ready to leave and he stood up as soon as he sighted me. It still baffled me that the Moon goddess would gift me such a beautiful man. I had given up on mating a long time ago.As soon as I closed the door, he attacked my lips. Biting, sucking, and grazing the walls of my mouth with his tongue. I loved the way he gripped my thigh. He sunk his teeth between my neck and shoulder abruptly but I was ready. Was this how it felt to be marked? I felt a little burning sensation and really couldn't wait to admire it later. I unbuttoned his shirt. The moment a gazed at his chest and belly, all the warmth I felt disappeared. He had tattoos. Maybe it's a lesson from the goddess to help me overcome my phobia of tattoos?"What's wrong?"I shook my head. "I'm fine. Just a little too tired and distracted." I smiled at him."You should rest here then," he suggested as he brushed my short hair from my face.My eyes widened. My kids! How could I have forgotten that my shift was over and it was time to go home and feed them?"Sorry, I can't. I need to go home and feed my kids," I said hurriedly. He appeared confused. "You have kids?""Yeah.""I can't accept that," he said, suddenly angry."What are you talking about?""Sydney Leonard, I'm rejecting you as my mate."Tears filled my eyes. Maybe it was a repeated dream. I felt my body hit something cold before my eyelids glued together.Sydney's POV"Nicklaus, Asher, would you like to go on a picnic?" I asked my adorable boys."Yes, Mommy!" they chanted as I scooped them up.It had been so long since I spent some real time with my boys. Whatever that told Jeffrey that I needed a break should keep doing that. Maybe it was Alexander? No, not after the way I've been treated. A tiny hand wipes a stray tear off my face. "Why are you crying, Mommy?" my boys asked in unison."It's nothing loves." We got into Aunt Rosa's pickup truck which she let me use whenever she wasn't going anywhere."Where's the picnic at, Mommy?" Nicklaus kept asking but I didn't reply.Klaus was the bubbly of the two. And as much as he brightened my day, sometimes, I just couldn't deal with all that energy at once. Asher was the gloomy one. He and I related on so many levels. We arrived at the park and laid out the scantiest basket anyone there could have seen. But the moment those two saw apples, the whole world was complete for them.I watched the
Sydney's POVWhere could they have gone? I had searched the whole restaurant. The other customers were obviously pissed but fuck them."Excuse me, ma'am," someone said from behind me as I grabbed the keys to find my boys."Yes?" I answered, irritated."You haven't paid for your food," the waitress from earlier said as she pointed to the table we sat at. I grudgingly brought out some money, annoyed that she was wasting my time. I low-key blamed her for this. What kind of creepy stares at people so much but misses important details about them. Like children!I dashed out of the place and powered up the engine. They couldn't have gotten far, so I circled that neighborhood. My mind kept referring back to that first dream or was it a vision?'You should relax a little,' Reika suddenly said.'You choose the oddest times to try to be of help,' I snorted.'Just set your pride aside for once and look for them carefully.''You think I don't know what two short kids look like?' I barked.'That d
Alexander's POVMy hands gripped her rounded hips as she towered over me on my bed. But I couldn't see her face. Her hands crept up my chest. Her lips almost touched mine when I finally saw her face.My scream was stuck in my throat as my body sat up from my bed. Some rays of sunlight were already making their way into my room. Still unable to speak, my eyes darted from my immaculate white walls to the tiled floor. My head ached and I was low-key annoyed. This had been happening since I left her in that room. I felt guilty sometimes. The mark I gave her would prevent her from having another mate.'That's because she shouldn't have another mate,' Lyall growled.Rolling my eyes, I got out of bed and took a minute to look at my tired frame in the mirror opposite my bed. I must have slept off in my work clothes. Just as I turned to head to the bathroom, I saw those hazel eyes again.Since I rejected Sydney, I was restless. There was no reason to since I barely even knew her. But everywher
Sydney's POVI put my foot where the tires should drive on and just as I thought, I saw it and didn't want to run my foot over."I have places to be," he snapped. As if I didn't have places to be as well."Why did you give me a lift?" I needed to know.He frowned. "You could have said you didn't want it before getting in my car then."That bastard! As if he and his annoyingly handsome driver didn't try to run me down.'So his driver is handsome?' Reika growled."Thank you," I said reluctantly. At least he saved me the many breaths I would have lost if I kept walking. Removing my foot, I watched them leave, partly annoyed that he didn't acknowledge my thanks and that I saw his driver as handsome.'I thought you were shunning men,' my bitchy wolf said. I wasn't even sure if she was teasing or just being her bitchy self.Jeffrey was waiting in the reception the moment I stepped in. His face was burning red. Oh no."Where have you been?" he fired at me once I was close enough. To be honest
SYDNEYMy phone's ringing alerted me about the time. It was very late. I pulled the device from my pocket and saw that it was Aunt Rosa that was calling me. I quickly wiped away my tears and cleared my throat so that my aunt would notice."Hey don't be mad at me I'll be home—" I was interrupted by a smaller voice, one that I was so damn sure that my sadist aunt would not have even if she got in an accident and had to do a surgery."I miss you a lot mom. When are you coming back?" Asher sounded as timid as usual."Oh my baby!" I had completely forgotten about them, and now I felt like a horrible mother. "I will be back home okay?" I cheered him up and I could only hear a whimper through the phone. I rose to my feet and headed in the direction of my house, but I had so many questions running through my mind.'With all these questions, will you find answers?' Reika's voice interrupted the train of thoughts.'I don't know if I will find the answers, but maybe you can help me out.' I stun
Sydney's POVOh my God.Oh my God.Oh my God!I rushed out of the car, panting. The car didn't hit the person but I couldn't see them nonetheless. What if I actually hit them? Oh, goddess Ciara.Getting to the front of the car, a woman was sitting on the road. I ran to help her up. Her purse and its contents were scattered all over the place. Helping her to her feet, I kept saying, "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry." She hissed as I helped her up. "Does it hurt?" I asked."Yeah. It's fine though," she said and smiled at me.Weird.I helped her into the car as my sons jumped out to gather her things for me. Thank goodness this was a lonely street so it was rarely busy. I argued that we needed to do something about her ankle but this woman refused over and over again. Instead, she agreed to follow me around so that I could watch her."Nick, Asher, it's good to see you two again," she smiled at my sons. What the…I placed her face the next second. It was the old lady from the coffee shop! "Oh m
Alexander's POV.What? I blinked rapidly to register who was in front of me, we both stared at each other breathless, trying to understand what we should do next. It was an awkward situation, but it baffled me a lot as to how she always knew where to find me."Hey I'm here bec—" she started but I didn't want to hear her complete the half ass reason,"No, you're not supposed to be here. How did you even find my address?" I closed the distance between us and felt the mate bond tug at my very soul, as much as I didn't want to get attracted it was very hard to do so."That's what I'm trying to explain, I—" "You're stalking aren't you?" I jumped to conclusions and it was irritating her. "Or you came here to steal something? I'm calling the police." I whipped my phone from my pocket hastily."Would you just—""Sydney!!" I heard mother scream and rush into her arms, engulfing her in a tight hug. My will to call the police had vanished as I saw her hold my Goddess given mate like she was a ch
Sydney's POVHow could he think of me like that? It was so uncalled for. Truth be told, he barely knew me, but thinking I wanted to hurt his mother was just extreme.'He is an alpha. What do you expect?' Reika said.'Can you be on my side for once? Just because you want him so bad doesn't give you a right to be unreasonable.''I am on your side. That's why I'm telling you all this. An alpha has numerous enemies so it's normal for him not to trust anyone,' she explained."I don't care. I just want to get home to Nick and Asher. Keep your explanations to yourself.'I knew I was being petty. But Reika had always been fond of making me look like the paranoid one, and it didn't start when we met Alexander. It was darker than usual. I closed later than I would have at the hotel. As the breeze scattered my hair, a smile etched itself into my face. Today was a nice one. And Mrs. Grayson was just a lovely person overall. I was kind of happy that I got fired. Otherwise, she wouldn't have offere
