102-Telling Carter

Anderson’s POV

Bear- You should have just let it go and never mentioned that ring thing.

Me- I get that now.

I’m sitting in the corner of the yard holding a sleeping Monty. I don’t to move around as long as he is asleep on my chest, but at the same time I can feel Ari’s sadness. She must have believed Dad had bought the ring and thought of her when he bought it. I mean, I thought of her. I thought about the size of her hand, the way the yellow diamond would look against her brown skin. I thought about all of it. It was me, not Dad.

“Hey, y’all fighting already?” Finley sits beside me and looks at Monty. “So what is he to you? Son? Brother? What?”

“We are not fighting, he is my stepson,” I answer with a huff.

“So why does Ari look like she did six months ago?” Finley raises his eyebrows.

“Because I told her that Dad bought her ring from me and did not pick it out himself,” I look at my brother, who is trying not to laugh.

“You are dumb as Hell!” Finley laughs. “Why would mention that?
