84: The speech breaks hearts

Jeremy got up from the table to pull out my chair for me to sit. He stopped talking to the others to pay attention to me. He looked toward the exit of the room leading to the hallway as if he knew what had happened. Demian entered through that same door just as Jeremy looked. Demian stared at us as if he could feel our eyes on him.

Jeremy turned to look at me when he realized Demian wouldn’t stop staring at me. Rachel came over and stole his attention. I looked back at Jeremy with a smile, pretending everything was fine. Jeremy wasn’t betrayed by me this time because I didn’t let anything happen. I felt proud of that. However, I must admit that something inside me reproached me for not letting Demian kiss me. I silenced my thoughts to focus completely on my husband.
