45. Vampire crown prince

[Zeve’s POV]

“Zeve! Run!” Amor yelled impatiently.

I looked back. The sharpness of the swords reflected in my eyes as two black-robed men raised their swords, aiming at me.

Fear combined with numbness paralysed my body.

That fear was different that the fear of dying. It was — fear of dying a useless death when there were people who had actual reasons to live other than living itself. Fear of failing people when they needed me the most. Fear of falling so low in my own eyes from where I couldn’t get up. Never.

Fear of wanting to help but being helpless.

I wanted to run, but my body wouldn’t move. I froze in my place, waiting for the sword to slash my skin.

I heard a loud growl that soon transitioned into a deafening howl louder than the atrocious noises in the hall.

Something faster than light swept from behind me, slamming the men attacking me on the wall.
