[Zeve’s POV] The winds violently fluttered my hair as I stood contemplating Amor. He squatted near one lily, caressing its petals between his thumb and index finger. I averted my eyes, taking a deep breath. Even the insignificant things he did sent butterflies in my belly. Seriously! What the hell is wrong with me? “You said it wasn’t the fault of the lily if it expected rain, but faced the drought. You said that those tears on its petals were a sign that it survived and saved its kind. Right?” He looked at me. I nodded softly. “So… what should it do to prepare for the drought? What should it do so that no more scars add to its petals?” He asked, leaving the petals of the lily. I never thought those hands that were covered in blood almost all the time could, so gently, caress the petals of a flower without hurting them. “It doesn’t need guidance, it needs resistance, adaptability, new genes and mutation to keep up with the adversities it faces or the ones that are yet to come.
[Zeve’s POV] He said, and I tightened my fists. “What if I don’t agree? What if I am not as worthy as you think I am?” He rubbed his nape. “Until this day, my analysis about a person has never been wrong. I am sure of each word I have said.” He said. “Why did you suddenly tell me all this?” “Because ironically, the person who hates me the most was the first person to even try to understand me.” “Because I understood your vulnerability?” I said, and his stoic face froze. He squinted his eyes and nodded. “Maybe.” “I will not,” I said with a bitter fire occupying my chest. “I am sorry, I will do nothing for you, ever. You or your pack. I will not help you with ruling. Not because of my grudge against you, but because I don’t think I will do justice to your expectations of me as the luna of your pack.” He was marrying me because he wanted me to act like the mother of his child — his pack. That was the only value I had in his eyes. But would that make me happy? Never. Yes, it woul
[Amor’s POV] Zahir was recovering fine and Lucella had allowed him to sit and walk, but only a little distance. Most of the time, he was with Venus and Polaris. Seeing them together and happy once again gave me a sense of fulfilment and satisfaction as their alpha. But problems don’t stop coming. It was the harvest season and now that everything was fine; the villagers travelled to another village. Most of them had left for the harvest, and the village had aged people and kids. But they too stayed in their houses. We had been a burden on the villagers for weeks, so I decided to not bother them anymore. I was waiting for Zahir to get back to his normal health and Morfan to reach this village, then I would send this little family off to Arginieth with Morfan and Lucella. After that, I would continue on the pre-marriage journey. But in all this, the major problem was how can I cook food without burning it? I had never cooked before. Never needed to. Now that the villagers wer
[Amor’s POV] “Zeve! You are going to be my luna… if you don’t care about your reputation, it’s ok. But don’t tarnish my reputation.” I rebuked her. I can’t explain what I felt at that moment. I was angry and frustrated and I felt helpless. Even after being the alpha of such a great pack, I wasn’t able to provide my going to be a wife with daily needs on that journey. How the hell would I feed my whole pack? More than her, I was enraged by myself. “Amor,” she smiled with a tranquil stillness on her face, “food is food. Each grain of rice is food. It’s their hard work. They are sharing it with us because you are their alpha. It’s not excess for them, they are cutting their hunger to feed us. The amount of rice you burnt was the amount of rice I cut when I was preparing the food. So that it manages over all. And sharing food increases love and communication with people. It’s not eating leftovers.” I felt like crying because of the rage and guilt filling me after hearing her words.
[Amor’s POV] The handshake lingered longer than normal, casual handshakes. My hand engulfing her fragile, soft, warm hands. Even when she tried to take her hands back, I held it tight. She lowered her gaze. Her breaths hitched as I broke our handshake by leisurely brushing my fingers with hers. I dropped my hand beside my thighs. My fingers stretched out as I felt the tingle of her warmth sprawl all over my palm. It was a strange feverish sensation burning my palm, and spreading throughout my body like a flame spread on paraffin. We blankly stared at one another for a few minutes. No one was ready to break the silence. But even that silence between us had so much to decipher and fathom. It had to mean something, be it her, just breathing with her parted plump lips or me, just staring at her blankly. It wasn’t like that in the beginning, so why does it seem now that everything between us has meant something all along? “D-don’t forget your p-promise,” she stuttered. Her chest
[Amor’s POV] Vampires had been after Zeve. I knew it from the very beginning. They were there when I attacked the Enver pack and they followed Zeve to the cave she hid in. Although because of my presence they didn’t dare come out of their hiding, I could smell the stinking burnt blood in the air that day, a typical vampiric scent. I was expecting them to be some shady royalties, but— “What a pleasant surprise?” Coincidentally, Kaltain and I said the same words at the same time. He brushed back his hood, revealing his disgusting smile and even more disgusting face. “And I was wondering where did the greatest alpha of all time disappear in such a short time with his new toy he stole from my dear friend, Chaz Enver? Seems like our alpha knows the art of invisibility.” He yammered. “Seems like your mother forgot to feed you her blood so you don’t know how to behave with a lady.” I said. He smirked obnoxiously, “and your mother didn’t breastfeed you enough with the divine milk for
[Zeve’s POV] While Kaltain dragged me upstairs, I saw Amor fall on the ground face-down. Blood drained from my body. The only thought running through my head was to dash to him. Mayavi’s menacing eyes met mine, and she smirked. Lifting her brows, she waved her finger in a goodbye gesture. She did something bad to Amor. I had a terrible feeling about it. But what did she do? My mouth turned dry as my heart thundered in my chest. My steps sometimes fell on the stairs, sometimes Kaltain just dragged me, never bothering if my legs hurt or sprained. Since Amor came into my life, I had never been dragged like that. It reminded me of the times I spent in the Enver pack and all those dark memories I wanted to bury and forget about. Being dragged like that was in my daily routine. I saw Mayavi strut towards Polaris, “no! Let me go! Leave me! Don’t touch Polaris! Leave him alone!” I screaming, trying to free myself, but Kaltain’s bruising grip tightened around my wrist. “Looks like yo
[Zeve’s POV] “Hahaha! Who did you call? Your kidnapper? That thief who stole you from me? Tell me, my pet. Did he touch you? Can’t blame him. No man can resist your perfect, beautiful body? But I don’t enjoy sharing what’s mine with anyone else. Ever wondered why your mate never touched you?” He chuckled, and I gulped, panting in horror. “Amor!” My voice cracked. “Amor!” I cried out. It’s scary. I am scared. Please come, Amor. Please! “Ugh!” He sighed annoyingly and rolled his eyes. “Unfortunately, the person you are calling is already dead. Please try again. Never.” “NO, HE IS NOT! HE CAN’T! HE WILL COME, HE ALWAYS DOES! AMOR!” Like he once instructed, I curled myself in the shrimp position, covering my head with my hands. Kaltain gritted his teeth, “let’s see who saves you today…” He reached out for my breeches. I shut my eyes tightly. He grabbed my knees, forcing them apart. There was a strong gush, and I felt his filthy touch disappear. I heard a loud crash followed by s
