Time seemed to pass incredibly slowly over the next few hours. And I found myself roaming the village and greater pack grounds trying to process all of the information that seemed to be coming at me from all angles.

I somehow, perhaps naively, thought that coming back here was going to be relatively simple. And in principle I guess it was. Trick Tenebris, find Alison, kill the demon, and go back home. In reality, it seemed to be a lot more difficult than it ever did in theory.

I hadn’t expected the amount of emotional baggage that seemed to flock to me. Firstly, from Landon, and then from discovering all of these connections that I had no idea I was to expect. And whilst I was fully aware that the strain of being away from my children was going to bring, I wasn’t prepared for just how hard that was going to be to fight through.

I missed them. With all my heart. My body still ached from the birth, and the fact my milk had come in was just a reminder that I was not complete. A
