Rosalie I was back in his arms, where I belong. It had felt like the longest journey of my life. Discovering the Goddess woods had been a harrowing experience. He had taken me as far away from the little farm cottage as possible, before stopping in a particularly sparse area of heathland. Perhaps thinking it was easier to see intruders coming. Alexander By the time we have returned to Castle Black, the autumn winds were in full swing. September had always been a temperamental month. Moving so quickly from summer to fall in the blink of an eye. The warmth of the sun was quickly disappearing, replaced with gusts that brought the leaves swirling from the skies, and littering the floor, blanketing them in a patchwork of colours. Stories that she told the children, enthralling them with big ideas of scary Alpha Kings, and maidens that came to the rescue. I knew the outline, but not the details. Rosalie The idea of having to meet with Estelle was soul draining. I had no wish to have to be in her company for longer than absolutely necessary. Not knowing if she was even still in Castle Black, which seemed unlikely given the tone of what was happening here. Rosalie I had been right in my fears. Estelle was no longer in the area. Which meant that any hopes of getting an answer on the witch’s grimoire were not going to be answered any time soon. There was nothing else for it, other than to send a message detailing exactly what we sought. In one way, I was glad. It was no secret that we had no lost affection between us. Ordinarily, I would be glad for her not being in the vicinity. Her presence only led to me feeling on edge. But on this occasion, I had hoped that she would be. Rosalie I didn’t need him to say anything, the look on his face alone was enough to tell me that the day I had dreaded had arrived. I walked into our tower, which had become our refuge through some of the hardest moments of our time together and stopped in the doorway. Alex sat in wait. The weight of world resting on his shoulders, and I just knew what was coming. “When do you leave?” I ask, trepidation flowing through my veins as I shut the door closed with a soft click. “You never cease to amaze me my Rosa.” He replies slowly, drinking down the remaining amber liquid in a glass beside him. “First thing.” Dread filled my gut.
