“Otsana’s father has taken her to another pack.” The words surprised me just as much as they apparently surprised her!

“Oh? If he feels that is best, I guess it’s all right.” She shrugged. If we were following proper protocol, I should have asked Alison first before Otsana was sent away, but she didn’t seem bothered. As a matter of fact, she seemed relieved to be rid of her for good.

“Yes, he believes if he sent her to her aunt straight after her mother’s death, things might have been different for her.” I frowned, not knowing why the hell I was going into so much detail.

“Yes, if a lot of people did a lot of things differently, a lot of us would have had better lives.” Alison looked sad for a moment before composing herself and smiling again. “But that’s all in the past now, I guess.
