The man didn’t answer Carlos but fastened his eyes on me.

“The rumors were true.” Before he turned to Carlos. “How dare you get married behind my back?”

The woman looked at me in disdain. “When had Cory ever honored you?”

They turned to lead the way inside and we followed. I wondered if the woman would appreciate my gist at all, she wore no jewelry.

Carlos squeezed my fingers and pulled me in.

We walked closely behind his parent and my hand tightened around my purse which held my most likely won’t be welcomed present.

“Dinner isn’t ready yet, how about we sit for a little discussion while waiting.” His mother offered and she led us to the sitting room, but her husband didn’t follow.

“I’d like to talk to Carlos in the library, you women can do whatever women do.” His voice is serious as he moves ahead.

I looked at Carlos and he gave my hand a little squeeze. “We’ll be back in some minutes.” His hands ruffled my hair from the top. “Don’t miss me too much.”
