Chapter 99

"Where's Maggie?"

A young girl came out of a wooden house. She was dressed in a tattered mauve dress. She had a dark shawl wrapped around her neck and her head hung low as she stood in front of the old man, her father. He was asking for her mother.

"I have no idea, papa," The young girl said in a meek voice. "She asked me to go home with the others. I think she wanted to clear the stall. It's dirty."

Whack!

The young girl fell to the ground as she hissed in pain. Her father had slapped her cheek. Her cheek that had received slaps everyday of her life. But now, she wasn't receiving that for anything she did. Her mother had stayed back instead of coming with everyone and somehow, he had found a way to pin the blame on her.

When she looked up at him, he was glaring down at her. "Who is going to make me food tonight?"

"I will." The young girl whispered.

Her father shook his head and laughed. "What do you know how to do? You can barely look after yourself
